@123Mimi, it depends on the school. The ones on our list want everything in at least two weeks before the audition (so you can schedule the audition before the transcripts and recs are in.) But over on the MT forum, they’re saying that UMich requires EVERYTHING submitted before you can schedule the audition. So I would recommend checking with each school on your list to see when they need everything.
@MTmom2017 - detroit is 45 minutes from Ann Arbor at the most. Really easy drive. One highway - straight shot.
@cglovestheatre - UNCSA drama is intensive acting training, but also requires voice and dance each year as part of the curriculum. It is a very physically demanding program. My non-singing daughter now boasts she “can sing!” Same with dance - she had to buy all the dance shoes/clothes and uses them daily in class.
Curious how auditions went for people this weekend? This was our first dance call audition!!! We were a little unsure about it- my daughter has some basics but it is not her strongest skill. I was relieved to find out she thought it was a lot of fun and she actually enjoyed learning the combination and then performing it. Big weight off of our shoulders but it will seem like forever waiting for feedback/ acceptances when some schools say March/ April for decisions?!
Anyone successfully schedule an Acting audition at Ball State? S has applied (he confirmed he choose the right major) and has not ever received an acting supplement app(think there is one) or anything? He has emailed the coordinator for theater listed on the web but thought I’d ask here. TIA if you have info!
Anyone from previous years (or know someone) who knows about UMich Acting audition timing at Unifieds? The email we got says to block out the whole day & that they’ll send a schedule about 10 days before the audition. We finally heard back from Chapman, and passed, but need to schedule that one & the day I need is the same day as UMich. Help?
@vpvpbp D emailed the Audtion coordinator at Ball State and she confirmed her audition date and said we would receive information by January regarding the specific time. I think this occurred after she submitted the application and whatever supplemental info that BSU required. I do believe we had to send an email to get the day confirmed but we still do not have a time.
Thanks!! @TNTheatreDad
As a parent that took a son and a girl from our neighborhood to 8 college campuses and all three unified locations I’d be more than willing to share my experiences and perspective on the process. Combined the two kids auditioned for 34 schools. Lot’s of highs and lows. I would rather not say where both ended up but my son ended up at a top five acting school and the girl who started from nowhere a year before the process began somehow came on late and made two top five waiting lists and enrolled in a tier two school. Both kids are very happy almost at the midpoint of their freshman year. Just be aware being ethnic helps and make sure all social media accounts are G Rated.
Did either of your children have any interview questions that really took them out of left field and caught them off guard? I had always imagined interview questions being anything that would catch them off guard this meaning those top tier ones to be specific ? We never know what schools are looking for. I have read this many times. Perhaps they want a few funny guys and 2 tall 2 short 2 overweight… or super serious or a bit on the geeky side… We never know. I’m sure all of our kids are pretty skilled (we’re on here as proof) but we may not be the right fit at the right time at that specific school. I see this as part of is skilled and ready and the other part being luck… Lucky to be what they are looking for this year
Nothing that really threw them off. They did know more than they though they would know about them. If they are interested in your child they look over social media to get more insight into what makes them tick.
Today is our first audition: Marymount Manhattan. I can’t believe it’s finally actually happening! I discovered CC when my daughter was a high school freshman. I spent months obsessively reading all the theater and MT threads (including all the archived ones), researching the schools, and eagerly following everyone’s journey over the past three years, cheering everyone on, wondering what our own journey would be like when the time came.
It feels like we’ve been on line for a roller coaster, watching it soar above our heads, wondering what the ride would be like, and asking everyone as they got off: “How was it? Was it fun? Was it scary?” Then this application season opened, and it felt like “Now it’s our turn!” - but sending in applications and scheduling auditions was like getting on the ride, finding our seats, buckling our seatbelts, and waiting for the ride to begin. It was like “Okay, it’s our turn and we’re on the ride, but it hasn’t actually STARTED yet.”
But now, about to head into the city for this first audition, it feels like “This is it!” The ride is about to start, with all its soaring heights (hopefully!), dizzying drops, and unexpected twists and turns! All I can do is hang on and pray that it will be fun and thrilling - not terrifying and nausea-inducing! LOL!
Break legs, everyone!!!
BAL to your kiddo @actorparent1
Thanks, @bfahopeful!
Great post, @actorparent . Break Legs!
Break a leg everyone!
Anyone going to be at Baldwin Wallace today? Just wondering what to expect as far as information sessions and seeing the campus. The email seemed a bit vague. I know there are students available but didn’t know if anyone has experience with their audition weekend. We are getting a late start today. D auditioned for Emerson yesterday and then we had a late flight from Boston to Cleveland. I’m shaking loose the cobwebs this am. Just don’t want to miss anything. Break legs everyone!
Was anyone at Syracuse Friday or Marymount Manhattan on Saturday?
@FourStars, we were at Marymount on Saturday (I posted our experience in the “Prescreen and Auditions” thread).
We are a month behind! But finally her common app is ready and she started submitting her applications today. I am so relieved. And I think she is too! Thanks @type1mom for holding my hand when I thought she was too late to submit her pre-screens to CMU. Happy Thanksgiving everyone.
I wouldn’t worry about the timing. Once you are in the audition room, none of that matters. People will get in from both early and late auditions. Just keep moving the ball forward!
