Class of 2023 Admissions Decisions / Discussion - University of Delaware

I Haven’t heard anything today. I think they’re usually out by now.

my daughter’s app was complete 10/28 and got email saying it was complete and ready for review 12/6 but they reached out the next day for her Q1 grades and she had them sent (thankfully they are good), but no word now…

Nothing…

My daughter applied for nursing 10/10- she has a 4.0 but a 26 on ACT- the test was not her friend lol-
NHS
American sign language HS
Spanish HS
BBYO president of her region
Peer leadership-president
year internship at St Catherine’s Hospital
All college level classes or IB
We heard back last night and they requested her midterm grades which are great. Anyone else get this? I would love some feedback. Thanks and good luck to everyone!

@NYIslekid D also applied for nursing, but didn’t receive a request for grades as far as I know. There were some nursing deferrals last week and your data point this week. Hopefully, more decisions soon.

My daughter also applied for nursing, and received a letter on the portal around 5pm saying they want her midyear grades.

My daughter found her merit award on her portal today. She said that the update wasn’t as obvious as she thought it would be, had to go into the the financial aid section to see that something had changed. Maybe it’s been there for a couple of days??? She got a 14k/year Presidential Scholarship. She was admitted to UDel on 11/21.

I was waitlisted for nursing. My GPA is a 3.95(weighted) and my SAT is a 1240. I’m assuming I probably won’t end up getting in, but either way i really want to go to Udel, it’s my #1 school!!! I put biology as my second choice major, but in my email they never mentioned anything about me getting into Bio at all. I was wondering if Udel will accept me, even if I don’t get into nursing and when will I hear from them next? I honestly do not care what major I go for since I was never set on nursing anyways, I just really want to go to Udel!

@collegegal20 If you were applying to nursing but “never set on nursing,” not getting in is probably the best thing that has happened to you.

Nursing is a really difficult curriculum and wanting to be a nurse in general is typically a passion and a calling for those choosing that career. It is not something you want to go into if you aren’t really excited about it. You don’t want to start down that path and then realize you don’t actually want to be a nurse.

If you are considering other careers too, you might want to call admissions and ask to be considered for a different major, as that will likely increase your chances of getting in to Delaware. Nursing and engineering are usually the most difficult majors to get into at a lot of schools.

Merit award notification was in the portal… only $8,000. We are OOS, so not enough… bye bye Delaware, you’re off the list.

Daughter (instate) was admitted 12/7/18. Merit award mailed to us 12/14/18 and also on portal. Received UD Trustee scholarship which is $24,000 over 4 years - $6,000. per year. Alot of confusion with the way people are stating the amounts of the merit scholarships being yearly when in reality its spread over 4 years. Hope this helps.

@KristyLizz @Lisasdaughter what are you stats? Did your awards much up with the Delaware net price calculator estimate or was it lower?

1460 SAT, 4.0 GPA, IB Programme couses, NHS, NSHS sports, volunteer hours and clubs. I didn’t use the net price calculator so I’m not sure. Just confused by the 3 merit scholarship amounts quoted by other recipients and am wondering if the amount we received is low.

@Lisasdaughter Instate awards will be much less than out of state, so you need to consider that was well when comparing.

NPC shows $4k for 4.0/1460 instate, so I guess $6k is relatively good.

D19 was accepted on 12/7, just logged into her portal but don’t see anything about merit aid. We knew it was unlikely but were hoping for even a little bit.

@lexluthor5 thanks for clarifying. I didn’t understand that oos students received higher “merit” amounts for living elsewhere.

@Lisasdaughter you have to remember that oos students pay way more than instate students to start. They need to give more merit to oos students or they won’t get enough to go.

@Lisasdaughter - OOS award is much higher as COA is much higher. S19 received $17,000 per year but OOS COA is over $50,000/year.

When are needs based decision made?

D19 was accepted 12/7 (honors college) and saw on the portal today was awarded Trustee Scholarship $17,000/year!
