Class of 2023 Admissions Decisions / Discussion - University of Delaware

@jdcollegedad Nope, there’s just a link for “Accept your offer” as well as “My Blue Hen Portal” but it doesn’t tell me anything about my major.

There should be a link to a letter on your portal. That’s strange.

@senioryear2019 On the Blue Hen Portal after you log in, there should be a link that says status update that provides your acceptance letter.

@senioryear2019 my daughters portal is the same way. The major disappeared as did the previous update link (she was academically accepted 1/11, we were just waiting on the result of her audition) , based on previous posts, that usually means you will get your confetti and streamers tomorrow night.

I’m currently waitlisted for udel on the three languages major due to its prestige even though I’ve been accepted to much more prestigious schools already…when do they notify waitlisted students? if denied, is it likely ill get accepted to my second choice major (linguistics)?

@senioryear2019 check your portal now. My daughters was updated

@chloeangel I recommend emailing your admissions counselor for your area. My d has been doing that and they have been very helpful.

@MomMartha Do you mind sharing your sons unweighted GPA and SAT scores? Thanks!

@abch2023 - Son is OOS - ACT 35, GPA 3.87 W - 7 AP classes

Son was accepted to Delaware and into Honors College on 11/16/18. Still yet to hear anything regarding merit scholarships/aid. Anyone else accepted around the same time but still hasn’t heard about merit scholarships?

@Splaks Yup! Checked it earlier today I even got an email from UD that apparently they were too excited that they already sent info about the open house dates even before posting the acceptance letter lol. Congrats to your daughter as well!

Yeah my son was accepted end of December into Honors but hasn’t heard a word about merit or aid

We were accepted into DE 1/25 and to my surprise received a letter in the mail today with her aid package. It says to check her portal for details, but there is no link to financial aid…

My D and I visited UD yesterday for the first time with an accepted students tour and honors information session. Going into the visit, it was running as her favorite based on 3 of her cousins having attended and talked it up. Plus, the aid was decent, and she was accepted to honors and nursing. The whole experience felt really impersonal. They were short on tour guides, so we were on a tour with about 70 people for one tour guide. It was also not well coordinated between the tour and honors session. Students seemed happy, but nobody was particularly friendly to visitors.

In contrast, we visited UVM on Friday and were blown away. The Provost gave a great opening presentation. There was a nursing tour and info session where they separated students and parents and spent about an hour fielding questions. When we looked lost, random students and staff went out of their way to offer help and walk us where we needed to go. It was similar on a visit to TCNJ on Sunday.

Did we catch UD on a bad day or is it just bigger and less welcoming? Is it different as a student? The visit really reset her college search.

We did not attend accepted students day yet but last summer we went for an open house tour and it was everything opposite you mentioned above. Our tour group was max 20 - that would make a big difference. It felt very personal. We had visited PSU and Pitt last summer along with UD and UD was the best of the three visits we had! Maybe you caught them on a bad day or maybe we happened to catch them on a really great day. I think I would take the 3 cousins experience over the tour experience but your D also has to go with what just feels right for her.

I work here and saw the large tour groups walking around. It was freezing yesterday and windy here, so everyone was rushing around to get out of the cold. When we toured the campus in the Fall, we had a personal tour with 2 tour guides. They took us everywhere we wanted to go and it was great. It helps to go on off times and not with the masses.

@Raam1012 @LMayPA Thanks for the feedback. I’ll suggest to my D that we schedule another tour, hopefully on a quieter and warmer day.

@jdcollegedad - I always recommend touring on a non Accepted students day. You can get the best feel for a campus on a smaller tour.

@MomMartha Thanks for the suggestion. We avoided the three Decision Day visits for that reason and signed up for one of the 13 Experience Honors Days. Yesterday being a school holiday and the first Experience Honors Day, I suspect that the number of students visiting was larger than normal for that sort of visit. Plus, they seemed to be struggling to schedule enough tour guides, because our guide is away this semester on an internship and came back just to fill in for the day. He did as good a job as he could with such a large group.

@jdcollegedad - it is amazing how the quality of a tour can make or break a college’s ranking for a student. UD was about to be taken off S19’s list but we still went on an already scheduled visit. The visit was incredible and UD went to the top of his list.

We had a very bad visit at Virginia Tech and S19 refused to even apply. At university of Florida we had a good general tour but an absolutely horribly visit with the engineering department. S19 has applied before our visit and was accepted there. Despite having a full ride (NMF scholarship) at UF, he has all but removed it from contention. I can’t help but wonder if we had toured another day st either of those schools that the outcome would have been different.

If UD checks all the boxes, I would consider going back for another tour on a less crowded day. You and your D may feel totally different.
