Class of 2023

Doe anyone know roughly when housing options will start to fill and thus how long can we wait in other school decisions?

My kid liked the Science & Health Living-Learning Center - does that fill early?

@midwest_parent We would also like to know about this, we are in the same boat.

Also would it be acceptable to commit to Baylor(with a deposit) and still keep other apps active just to see what comes in?
Baylor is my son’s #1, but we would sure like to see what the others offer.

A non-refundable $500 deposit to sign up for housing is just wrong, esp at a school where many of us won’t know if we can afford the school until February when aid packages come out.

@midwest_parent
Only going from what I’ve read is that Earle, the science LLC, fills up really fast. They are newer and much larger.

Congratulations to your son @ratsnotmice!!! My daughter was accepted and received the Presidential Gold Scholarship as well! She’s a NMSF and has applied for I2E in January. We’re hoping for a little more too…what does your son want to study?

Congratulations to all those accepted!!! My daughter was accepted to Baylor with the President’s Gold Scholarship. She was also accepted to TxTech, TAMU, and TWU as they all offer the major/minor she desires. Baylor is her #1 choice!!! Here are her stats as I tried finding this from the site like someone else had mentioned but had trouble doing so:
Intended Major/Minor: Nutrition/Dance (possible pre-Physical Therapy)
ACT: 34 SAT: 1420
Top 11% in class out of ~900
National Merit Semifinalist
She’s applied for the January I2E
We’re praying she gets that invitation and that some additional scholarships come through as she really feels like Baylor is where she belongs!

@valarrie My son wants to major in physics. Really, really hoping for Jan. I2E. Stats: class rank: 1 of 101, ACT 36, AP language 5, National Merit Semifinalist. Non-Weighted GPA 4.0

Housing - we were told this past weekend (Nov I2E) that there is no benefit from sending in your housing application early. They changed the entire system this year and the key date is May 1 for Housing. You can submit now, but they won’t assign until May and there is no preference to those who send in early. DD is going to Baylor, so we went ahead and paid the deposit, but unless you are certain about Baylor I don’t think there is a reason to pay yet. You can sign up for Line Camp and Orientation once you pay your deposit, but I don’t think those are open yet, either. If we learn more I’ll let you know, but no reason to stress about housing. Also, the I2E event is amazing. The scholarship part of it is a long shot, but if you want to learn more about Baylor and have your kids meet a lot of prospective #BU23 kids, it’s a great time!

Thanks @teaforwendy! That makes me feel better about it. The I2E event was awesome…many more kids than the 300 they say…but it was super helpful and informative, especially talking with the Baylor students. We are finding that two visits at each school gives a fuller picture, since my son is not yet sure which of his final four is “the one”.

@teaforwendy Yes, thanks for the housing info. That helps us relax some. Is your daughter a National Merit Semifinalist? Curious about the process for Reagents Gold scholarship.

@ratsnotmice No, she’s not a NMSF; I thought for the Regent’s Gold you had to declare Baylor as your top choice? Like an Early Decision-type commitment? I could be wrong…for sure. It seems as though some Baylor processes are changing, have changed (e.g., housing) so please don’t take my musing for knowledge. At I2E, they also reminded us to watch for departmental scholarships. I have friends at other Univ’s that run departments and often say the amount of money that goes unclaimed/un-asked for is a shame. We know a gal a few years older than my daughter who applied for one outside scholarship per week throughout her senior year and she won enough to cover MORE than everything. Wasn’t even close to being NMSF…the money can be out there, but it’s a lot of work to get it on top of everything else these kids have going on.

Yes, Regents Gold scholarship for NMF requires selecting
Baylor as first choice. Finalists are selected NMSF in late February, I believe.
Baylor now requires semifinalists attend I2E to compete for the scholarship. At least this is my understanding.

@teaforwendy - that’s so interesting. We are at Baylor right now and they just told us that the housing is on a first come, first serve basis so to apply early. For example, my son wants Business LLC and they said it fills up fast so they would process on first come first serve basis. ??..? If not, then I wonder how they choose?
It’s all so confusing. Went to financial aid today too and was told something very different than what I was told a couple of weeks ago by phone.

@SAMomofOne This is what I thought they told us too. Yet it goes against the very spirit of the May 1 decision date. Basically if you know you can afford Baylor or can afford to blow $500 on a non-refundable deposit, you get first dibs. If it was $50 or $75 like A&M/UT, it would not be quite as off-putting.

I heard that everyone signs up whenever, but it goes in order of application date as to when you get to choose which room you want.
So the sooner you apply for housing, the higher on the list of choosing location of your room.

@tdawns To be clear in my understanding, acceptance to a particular dorm or community isnot based on when you apply. But the room selection within that dorm is dependent on date of application.

@2019MomHP - I just paid a $750 housing deposit/application fee to Texas Tech last Monday (before we knew about acceptance at Baylor - and of course, we still need to know financial aid package for Baylor). But of that $750 I paid, it I cancel, I only get back $400. So that’s $350 that’s lost. Is a way for universities to make money.

@ratsnotmice - but if you have 100 people who want a spot in a LLC and there are only 40 available I wonder how they choose the 40? Just based on applications?

@SAMomofOne Maybe based on the required essay(2 or 3 sentences)in the application?

I cannot imagine that priority does not go in payment day order- their would be no reason to pay before May 1 if not. I have sent an email asking this question today.
