Do out-of-state students usually pay around 40k?
More like $50,000 for freshmen (including room, board, and books but not personal expenses). Higher tuition for upperclassmen, and additional tuition charges or engineering and nursing.
Can someone explain DUS & why it’s being suggested for ppl who have been offered a satellite campus when they originally applied to UP?
I believe because PSU doesn’t really have any “direct admit” majors outside of a few (like nursing), that you can start out under DUS (undecided) and still fulfill your pre-major requirements for say the school of business or the school of engineering. So even though my son was admitted to UP at for Smeal, he still has to apply to get into Smeal like everyone else after he’s fulfilled his pre-major requirements. So really there is no difference between him and someone who is DUS at UP.
The thought is perhaps DUS would be easier to get into at UP over Smeal pre-business. Although I think for many DUS is a competitive major in and of itself given it can basically be a pathway to several competitive colleges.
Thank you so much. I get it.
Is it known for giving any merit scholarships?
Nope. PSU is notoriously lacking in financial aid at the institutional level. Some certain colleges within Penn State may offer scholarships - and in fact, my niece got a full ride her Junior and Senior years - but those are after enrollment and within certain majors. My niece was extremely involved in research and had a 4.0 so she was offered quite a lot as an upper classman. However - as a freshman going in - almost nothing.
The “full ride” scholarship, is that very rare?
For those in this thread, is PSU your first choice?
Then, if most students are offered limited financial aid, it could be possible for the private schools in PA to cost less.
No… I would say top 5 but not first choice
hi all, i didn’t qualify for early action so i emailled them and they said that i’ll get my decision in january or february… but i applied on the deadline so idk what’s going on
You said you were told January or February. It’s not even February yet.
People should post whether in our out-of-state so we could see how similar the admissions are for each.
im in state
Do you know the amount of the Honors College Scholarship?
I got accepted to Mathematics University Park Fall 2021!! Applied at Nov 23th as
International student
@Yankeefan20 it is $2,500/ semester - so $5,000/year.
Actually, many private colleges offer enough financial aid so that they’re right at the level of Penn State.
If you submitted “rolling” application and received decision, please post the date of your application submission and the decision dates. Thank you.
