PSU Class of 2022 Decision Thread

Time to start a PSU Class of 2022 Decision thread! This format is copied from prior years.

History tells us that some acceptances will start rolling in by early November, even though most won’t hear until Dec/January. Good luck everyone! I hope we start seeing this thread fill up in the next few months.

@johnschenk18 Yes you have a good shot, but put chance questions in a separate thread. This thread should only be used to post acceptances that way people can quickly compare stats and see who has been accepted and who has not. People use these for years to ascertain trends, etc…So the decision thread is only for decisions. If you want people to “chance” you - you can create a chance thread and people will help you there. Good luck!

There is no place to enter new sat marks on the penn state application I emailed them 3 times but still no reply and today is the deadine, what should I do someone help me…did anyone find a place to enter new sat marks?

@ckmyd234 This is kind of a random entry on this thread, but a couple of things…the Penn State deadline is November 30th. Also, I looked back at my son’s application, and it doesn’t include his SAT or ACT scores. Obviously, those need to be sent directly from College Board/ACT.

How does Penn State initially notify? Email notification, US Mail or post on MyPennState?

@pjknphx Penn State will notify via the portal and then mail a package. You will not get an email. So check the portal first. After an acceptance is noted in the portal you will get a package in about a week.

Is it just random people get accepted in November? Or is it or is it people with particularly high stats? @jlhpsu

From what I’ve seen in prior years it seems like the people that get accepted super early are people with very high test scores and GPA. People they know they have room for.

Quick question - my S submitted his app on 9/30 - collateral info was not sent from his high school until last week.
Should he have already received info on how to log in to the portal?

I’m guessing your son applied through the Coalition App then? My son applied directly through the Penn State website, so I can’t say I am an expert with the Coalition App. Nonetheless, this is what the Penn State website states:

"Once you submit your application through the Coalition, you can check its status and receive an admission decision in MyPennState.

In order to do this, you will need to create a MyPennState profile if you do not already have one. We recommend creating a MyPennState profile right from the start so you can receive information and updates from Undergraduate Admissions."

You should be able to go here to get set up:

Ty- he actually applied directly through the Penn State website. I will try that link and see if that works. Many thanks!

Ty @tonypa that worked!

My nephew just found this out — NOTE – he did not apply to Main Campus. Only to PSU Erie.
Good Luck to everyone!!!

Based on the forum from last year, I am assuming that decisions for UP will begin to roll in the coming week (for top applicants, I’m pretty sure).

Do you know how high your stats have to be to be considered a top applicant? I have a 4.16 weighted 3.7 UW with a 1340 SAT and 30 ACT. I applied to smeal.

@NathanShelton10 For Smeal, no one knows. It is the hardest college to get accepted to at PSU (as a premajor - which everyone is - you won’t actually be IN a major in Smeal until the end of your sophomore year after you complete entry to major requirements). Your stats are very good and if you were applying to a liberal arts or undecided major, then yes, you’d likely be a top applicant. But in Smeal, not exactly. Also, not all ‘top applicants’ hear earlier. Regardless of stats, the VAST MAJORITY of students will hear in January. The definite yesses and the definite no’s CAN hear in November/December. Most likely decision date is after Christmas.

Yeah, I knew smeal was pretty hard to get into. I figured I’d try to get in as a premajor and then if I get rejected I’d call and ask to be reevaluated for a summer start DUS. I want to start in the summer anyways so its no big deal for me.

Question: If you applied to the Honors College, will the admission decision definitely be held until until late February when the Honors decision comes out?

Obviously speculation but when do you think I’ll hear back? Applied like a month ago, in state, 1470 SAT 4.2W GPA. College of Engineering, lots of ECs

Honors College decisions are totally separate, so you will hear back on regular admission first.

I attended an event at PSU this past weekend and was told by admissions that “virtually” no decisions had gone out yet, only a few hand picked test cases for their new system have gotten letters. They also said that they are running behind from past years because of the new system so we shouldn’t expect decisions any time soon. Boo!
