I got Penn State merit money but not Ohio State money. I need the Ohio State money… maybe we can ask if we can trade ha ha ha ha. You take my Penn State and I take your Ohio State.

That’s funny. That would be perfect! I wish we could swap!

Thanks. I guess I’ll give a call or an email.

I believe that’s the plan so far! But of course in COVID world anything can change. But PSU plans to have in person classes in the fall. So I think things will be moving towards a more “normal” school year, but a new normal for sure.

What type of merit money did you get from Penn State? Provost award? Was it through the college you were admitted to or from the university? If you don’t mind me asking what were you stats? Thanks.

I got Provost award. 3.95 W GPA, 7 AP, 7 honors. I think I wrote some great common app essays and have good Extra curricular. I also think my major of communication sciences disorders is a smallish program. Where do I see who gave the provost award? I just got a letter in the mail after I was accepted.

Do they inform you of scholarships with an offer of admission on your portal?

If you go to the financial aid link on the portal it will take you to your financial aid awards. For most everyone, that is going to be loans. Penn State gives out very little aid with the exception of the honors college (about $5k) and the Provost award (another 5k). Once you are a student there are more awards available within the different college that are awarded according to merit and other criteria. Penn State notoriously gives very little institutional aid.

Thank you! I got into it and saw that they gave me no grants or merit money at all? I am a pell grant recipient so it seems a bit ridiculous that I get nothing at all. I will email them and ask them to reconsider but I can’t see myself attending now. Not gonna take out a small mortgage when I have cheaper offers in equally good schools. Pity as it was my first choice

Unfortunately, Penn State does not “meet need”. The PHEAA grants for Pennsylvania residents hardly make a dent and there are very, very few merit scholarships (Millenium, Provost, Schreyer) which aren’t very big anyway.
If you have more affordable options, be they Pitt, Temple, or another state’s flagship, especially if you were offered Honors College admission, don’t hesitate. If you do hesitate, we can tell you which choices are best for what you want, and if you don’t have an affordable choice we can even suggest a couple (because many students in PA end up with barely to not really affordable choices, or even…unaffordable choices.)
Despite this being the Penn State forum, I totally agree that Penn State is not worth taking “a small mortgage” for, and certainly no more than the federal loans in debt (ie., more than the 5.5K loans for freshman year = there should be a more affordable choice).

The two bottom buttons disappeared in my portal. I’m very excited to see my decision. Does anyone know what time decisions usually come out?

weird.

It should update at midnight then. Best of luck.

thanks

I happened to notice your post about the blue band. Did your son do the virtual audition? My son auditioned for trumpet and we are anxiously awaiting the results!!

Nursing IS the most difficult to get into. He must have missed that somehow.

trust me… they accept students below a 3.0. depends on program
