Class of 2025 Admissions DISCUSSION

Anyone that didn’t submit test scores receive admittance I applied to criminal justice major OOS unweighted 3.6 weighted 3.9 it’s a stretch school for me so anxious to hear if I will be deferred or rejected ;-/

@DianeMartin2025 Penn State is not a reach school with 3.9. Also I applied test optional and haven’t heard.

Hi everyone,

I just renamed this thread to a discussion thread. Please use this thread to discuss waiting, timelines, questions…anything about the current admission cycle.

For DECISIONS ONLY - please post here: http://talk.qa.collegeconfidential.com/penn-state-university-park/2200436-penn-state-decision-thread-class-of-2025-decisions-posted-only.html#latest

College Confidential decrees that Decision threads should have ONLY decisions, thus the change. If you’ve posted your decision here already, feel free to repost the decision in the decision thread.

Thanks and good luck!

@jlhpsu Thank you for creating a “decisions only” post, that is what I had originally intended with this thread but it evolved into a discussion.

Just got my decision!!

ACT: 32
SAT: 1450
GPA: 4.63 Weighted
Rank: 11/459
State Residency: VA

Applied date: 10/17
Early Action: Yes
Decision Date: 11/11
Decision/ College: Accepted/Kinesiology (health & human development)
Campus: University Park

Thank you @Noahscott13 just nervous because most unweighted posts I have seen are much higher and some pretty crazy high test scores — just a strange year with some people submitting scores and others not

Yes looks like all High scores decisions , seems all biased being folks struggled to book test centers few months and 6 times cancelled ?

From all the decisions I seen so far, they are only making decisions if they have SAT/ or ACT scores. That is not fair for the ones with good GPA but did not have the chance to take SAT or ACT due to COVID-19.

Without test scores admissions needs more time to consider the applicant holistically. High stats applicant decisions are “no brainers”.

My daughter submitted test scores and we have not received a decision either because her SAT is not stellar - solid, in my opinion, but not stellar. They need more time to consider her based on the applicant pool.

Has anyone been accepted into Nursing program yet?

I absolutely don’t begrudge anyone with those amazing scores from getting in and congratulate them/you all! But we specifically contacted every school to make sure those without scores would get equal consideration. All said yes so it is a really bad look to release acceptances only to those with scores as the decision thread seems to suggest. I didn’t believe it anyway when they all said that and now absolutely don’t. I truly fear for kids from disadvantaged backgrounds who this will harm the most.

I submitted in early October to DUS, no decision or update yet. I submitted my one ACT score of 28 (taken in junior year), but now worried it was too low to submit? should I change? My GPA is 3.7

Really want to see one acceptance for those who did not submit SAT/ACT scores!

Update: I saw one in state kid without Test Scores are accepted!

I think it’s too early to pass judgment yet. Early Action deadline is Sunday, so personally, I’ll give it a few more weeks before I reach an opinion about fairness. Reading previous years threads it’s typical for Penn State, as well as others, to release a few decisions for VERY obvious admits early in the process. It’s good to keep in mind that not all high school GPA’s are created equal. Grading can vary tremendously from one high school to the next. One applicant’s 4.6 w could be equal to a 3.9 w from another high school. Admissions has to take all of that into consideration before arriving at a decision.

My D’s high school reports percent grades, when converted to a 4.0 scale her UW GPA is 4.0, W 4.55 & SAT is middle of the pack at 1330. She applied 9/22 and we’re still awaiting a decision. Going by last year’s thread, I don’t expect to hear anything until mid-December. I believe Penn State receives upwards of 90,000 applications, so it’s just going to take some time to compare apples to apples.

Congrats to those who’ve been accepted, and best of luck to the rest of us!

…just saw an acceptance on the decision thread with no test scores!

My daughter has been accepted. She did not send test scores.
Unweighted = 3.8 and Weighted = 4.45
Accepted on 11/12 to University Park for Communication Science and Disorders
Good luck all (I think I was the post on the other thread people are mentioning so thought I would post here as well)!

Remember that this CC thread is a very tiny percentage of the actual decisions that are coming out. Also, decisions at Penn State have ALWAYS been random. It is not first in, first out. The applications get sorted at several different times which means that it usually just depends on which pile yours gets into and how fast that admissions rep is. That being said, it is usually true that high stat kids hear first. Their “pile” is likely at the front of the line.

Penn State decisions have always also been mostly GPA and rigor (2/3 of the decision) and the other 1/3 were test scores and other factors. Now it will just be other factors.

Someone also posted today about being accepted without test scores.

Don’t try to read too much into the order in which decisions are released…as someone who has been here for years, believe me when I tell you it will drive you mad trying to figure it out. There is absolutely no rhyme or reason discernable.

@jdsacco when did she apply

@DianeMartin2025 - she applied on 9/14

Chances with a 3.4 uw no sat/act? Applied EA forensics program university park.
