A big envelope in the mail with Congratulations on the front, so no surprises. I guess Honors decision comes later?
Got the same email although did not apply for honors college. I think it is a system glitch.
Congratulations! It clearly seems that the High GPAs with SAT/ACT got admitted first.
@HHasim Not sure you saw my post from yesterday, but copying and adding to it.
- The deadline was just 2 days ago. So anyone that heard before the deadline was a clear admit and at the (top) end of the pool. ==> So, yes, {some} high stats kids are hearing early. They are the 'easy admits'. Why delay?
Admissions needs to understand where the proverbial “line” will be for candidates. It will be harder this year due to : test scores vs. no test score, yield unknowns, and just general chaos.
Also, there are different factors that come into play for decisions.
- different College Admissions officers may be quicker (or not) about pushing “admit”
- high school differences and rigor
- Without test scores, they may be doing a deeper dive into candidates to look at rigor. They. may read more optional essays and look at activities. All because they are looking for more information for each candidate.
I guessed I’m surprised that posters are surprised that high stats kids are hearing early. That is efficient workload management. If it is an easy ‘admit’, touch it once, push ‘admit’. Why put it in a pile or hold onto to screw something up later on?
@NJcollege2021 No, this should not affect regular admission. If you are really concerned, I would encourage you to call Admissions.
Schreyer is an ‘add-on’ application. The Schreyer staff review only the portion submitted to them - they don’t see the ‘generic PSU’ application. And ‘generic’ Admissions doesn’t see the Schreyer application (other than maybe a check box it was submitted).
I attribute it to a computer glitch encouraging everyone to complete it if started. If you aren’t applying, I would ignore it.
It certainly is not simply high stats who are hearing or have already heard because some of us here have stats that are the same or even better than what have been reported on the thread.
Time will certainly tell. Hang tight!
I think major also comes into play. I believe the university decides first, then the major decides at some schools. I assume this is the case at most. I have yet to see any Business admits, for example.
I saw on a FB group that there have been Smeal acceptances. I think we just all need to be patient - it’s a process and no one owes us anything. We can all fret hear together though!
@wordgirl72 I saw that too on FB where maybe no more than 5 noted Smeal, there seems to be a bot of everything with the biggest chunk noting Eberly.
Does PSU release decisions daily? I would like to know so I’m not checking the portal multiple times a day. FWIW- we are waiting still on Eberly.
@fanoffriends @wordgirl72 @skkm0906 There is no rhyme or reason to who hears early. As painful as it is, just know that your application will be looked at. There are many factors that come into play:
- College (ie. major)
- geographic or regional area
- HS rigor
- random number generator.
Seriously. I know many kids who have stats at or above others that heard before them… same HS, same College. Sometimes it just takes a while. They just closed their EA pool two days ago, so just let the process go. It actually is easier if you just step away… I speak from experience!
Congrats! Was this shortly after you received the big letter saying the app was complete? I just received that letter in the mail today which is why I ask.
Do you think I can get in with a 3.4GPA (my school doesn’t give a GPA, that is it calculated) and a 31 ACT? i go to a prestigious nyc private school with a good reputation, i don’t know if that helps or not
Just dropping in to say that I worked with Mr. Schreyer at Merrill Lynch in 1987. Nice, nice man.
What group on FB?
Paying for College 101
So that means we will receive the mail before the portal changes if we are admitted?
No. The portal will change first. Then a package is mailed out after that and usually received within a week of the portal change.
Quick question @jlhpsu…
Have you ever heard of a decision being released intra-day, or are they almost always after hours?
Great! Thank you!
