I am fairly new to this process and just wanted to ask if anyone knows any specifics about the waitlist. I got waitlisted at Ithaca and I am dying to know how it works and the likelihood of me getting off it. I have seen some waitlist discussions on other threads however I just wanted to make a specific one for all of us dying to know if we’ll get off of them.
Good luck to everyone else waiting and congrats to those with acceptances! I wish everyone the best of luck (and health) in these times!
I don’t know any specifics but I’m pretty sure that in my son’s freshman class at Ithaca this year, there are definitely some students who came off the waitlist. Congratulations and stay optimistic!
The waitlist are bound to be a game of musical chairs. Just looking at the list on this thread we are on a waitlist for a school and noticed that the possible void we need may be held by someone who is listed on 6 schools. They can only pick one. So when they decide 5 slots will open
I don’t know about this school specifically, but most MT programs will tell you that they waitlist by type. So - it’s almost more of an alternate list than a waitlist. Each school has a different plan and a different number in the queue behind each offer. Some type by voice, some by looks, and some by a combination of both. When I followed my son along the college audition circuit, one school told them: If our 10 best auditions were 6’ tall brunette baritones, we cannot take all 10 of them. It would be a disservice them because they would all be competing for the same performance opportunities.
@mthopeful2021 - Hello there! I am so sorry to highjack your topic, but do you mind if I ask an Admin to pin this topic? I think having waitlist information in one thread would be very helpful for quick reference. If you agree, please change the title to The Class of 2025 - Waitlist Questions? MT. Then either you or l can tag an Admin and ask them to pin it to the top of the list. Thanks in advance!
Thank you for all the supportive and insightful comments! They have really helped ease my nerves throughout all of this. I will definitely keep that all in mind
Ah that is a great suggestion! I will go ahead and change the title to the one you suggested however, as I am new to this, I do not know how to do tag an admin to pin it If the offer still stands, I would appreciate it if you tagged an admin. Thank you!
After doing some research, it appears I can’t edit the post after 15 minutes of its creation. I have tried to change the topic title however, I do not see a way to do this, unfortunately
Hello again @skieurope or @CC_Jon. Can you please pin this topic and change the title to: The Class of 2025 - Waitlists_ Questions/Information? MT please?
Separating this waitlist information from the venting thread will make it easier for current parents to find and future parents to track trends. Thank you!
Very curious if being accepted off a waitlist at a school whose admission is artistic and academic rolled together eliminates the chance of merit aid. Any experienced parents out there who could talk to their experience? Thanks in advance
@OutOfMyMind21 As with so much it varies with the school. My daughter did receive a full merit package when she came off the wait list at several schools, two that combined acceptances. She knows others who did not. It is school dependent and may involve whether the pool of money has already been distributed or whether the declining student had been awarded money. So in short you would have to check with each specific school you were waitlisted for.
Thanks for the reply! Good to know it’s a possibility, depending on school of course, so I can hope!
Trying not to think too much about the WL school, which is my student’s top (and most expensive! ) pick, since we need to move on and start trying to make a decision without that one factoring in, but I couldn’t help wondering… not like I’m going to stop obsessing over every detail of the process now, lol!!
My daughter is also on the waitlist for Ithaca and is very hopeful. We know someone who is a sophomore there now and he came off of the waitlist…mid June! Yikes!
@OutOfMyMind21 You do have to set aside your waitlist a bit and focus on making a decision from your yeses. However I recommend not giving up on a top choice unless you are ready. My D did went through her decision making process and was ready to commit May 1 to a school. But she kept up correspondence with the waitlist schools to let them know they were a top choice. She was lucky to come off one waitlist mid April and after a quick visit committed. However if she had not she would have put a deposit down May 1 and still likely kept in touch with her waitlists. It’s whatever works for your student. I have heard of kids coming off wait-lists in August . I have heard of others that just want to be able to love their choice and drop all waitlists on May 1! Break a leg with the decision and waiting!
Thank you! I think my student might hang on to the WL even after deciding between the yeses because this school is the favorite.
Were you ok with waiting until May 1 to accept a current yes if you hadn’t heard from the WL? I wonder about being “last in line” for housing if we wait that long - our top contender assigns housing lottery numbers by deposit date
Edit to clarify; top contender that is a yes right now
@OutOfMyMind21 As with many things - it depends on the school, but many schools don’t do their housing lottery and matching for freshmen until well after May 1. My kid’s school didn’t until July.
