Class of 2026 Undergrad/Class of 2024 Grad: The Tours, the Auditions, the Journey

March 15 for grad students and April 1 for undergrad was on the Boston conservatory at Berklee website. My daughter heard from BOCO at 8:30Am on March 15.

Just a note to the supportive parents out there. I was bummed that my daughter didn’t get an audition for USC and didn’t get into Miami/Frost after her audition and mentioned that here. Well, she did get into Berklee and just found out she got into CalArts for VoiceArts, which I’m thrilled about. So, hang in there everyone. Hopefully all of our kids will find their place.

I called Berklee this morning, they said decisions(RD) are coming out on March 31st

You can only go to one school, right? So the rejections are pointing the way.

When you are auditioning for UG, you may simply think of it as “good enough” or not. But college teachers, imho, look for students that they “vibe” with in some artistic way. Someone they feel that they can help grow. My D asked her UG teacher why she picked her; and she said “because you reminded me of myself when I was young”.

For vocalists (as an example), teachers are looking for students that fit their specialties. My D’s UG teacher had a lot of students that would get Mozart roles (as she did professionally…and now my D seems to get roles for). She would probably pass on some EXCELLENT students that were maybe Wagner type voices. It just wasn’t her strength. So…you just need to trust the process.

@songbirdmama wrote a good response to an MM opera question concerning the right teacher and how college teachers/students interact.

Work is slow today…so I have nothing better to do but pontificate here!

Mannes said “mid-March” for grad school decisions, but no word as yet.

Excellent points. It often has much to do with something other than raw talent. Fit is always a “thing”. And in that, they are doing our kids a favor. While Eastman may have been choice 1, I had my doubts that it was the right place for us, so the cosmos helped answer that lingering question that I had been keeping to myself. Would love to connect with parents privately/directly who have kids possibly headed to Kentucky, Boco/Berklee, Oberlin and potentially Bard (although not holding out a lot of hope for Bard since we had horrible technical issues with our mike during the remote audition - ugh, it happens). Lots to think through, including those high tuition bills, in the coming weeks.

Thank you! I do know of a grad student who got a decision already. We are undergrad and I understand some places send out grad first. Just getting antsy!

D was accepted to BOCO MM in VP, UT Knox, and Eastman. Rejected to Curtis following zoom audition. We can now stop obsessing. LOL

Nothing from Blair for us either. Hoping they are releasing by department but nervous. We know it’s a long shot.

The portal says this Friday for my daughter (vocal performance). I’m betting Vandy and Rice come out that day too.
She heard from Jacobs/IU and Michigan SMTD on a Friday 2 weeks ago.
