So sorry to hear that, but I’m sure he’ll land somewhere perfect for him!
oh thank you that’s so sweet of you! I guess that I’m panicking a lot which has led me to overthink a lot haha! (haven’t rlly heard back from any schools yet so that could be a reason…)
Congrats to you and your son- and yay for voice majors! (especially boys, haha!)
Hopefully you’ll keep us posted on his progress in the MM program-- looking to the future already over here!
Has anyone ever had any success appealing for more scholarship/financial aid at Eastman?
I imagine they are receptive to it since they have information on how to appeal right on the financial aid portal.
congrats to all the kids accepted into the programs. Has anyone heard from Juilliard and MSM?
Not yet on either. MSM’s website says “April 1st” for decisions.
This would be a question to ask of the conservatory right away. In the past studios were assigned before acceptances were due. But also, most of the students I knew ended up studying with at least two professors over the five years - although one always seemed to be their main mentor.
My own son studied with every single composer at Bard - both from the conservatory and the college. For composition, this is a good thing - to get multiple perspectives. I know it’s different for performance.
Thank you! We understood from our visit there that team teaching is a big thing at Bard. I will have my son reach out to admissions.
Anyone else in this thread looking at much less selective and less performance based programs? My son wants to major in music as a BA and has applied to almost all small LACs. He’s gotten into 8/9 (last one coming out later today). Just wondering if any of you have any insight/ info/ advice for him. He’s a singer (used to play guitar as well but hasn’t much lately). The schools he’s considering, sort of in order of current favorites on down, are Chapman, Puget Sound, Whitman, Occidental (the one he doesn’t know about yet), Lewis and Clark, St Olaf, UN-Reno, Willamette, and Cal Lutheran. We are in CA and his favorite geographic region is PNW, followed by west coast in general. He likes the breadth of courses at Chapman (like music business and production, and the ability to minor in something like game design). He’s only seen Chapman and Lewis and Clark in person, with plans to visit Puget Sound, Whitman, and UNR in the next couple of weeks. Chapman and Whitman didn’t give him any merit aid and we haven’t gotten the merit aid letter from Puget Sound yet. Anyway, if anyone has any experience with any of these schools we’d be interested, thanks! Good luck to everyone still waiting for results.
thank you!
My son only applied to two “music schools” — Ithaca and Lawrence — since he isn’t 110% sure he wants to major in music. The rest of his schools were LACs that offered music. However, it looks like right now he is going to launch as a music major and see what happens.
My daughter is at one of the schools your son is looking at and is studying music. She has had a really rough first 18 months with Covid, but finally seems to be settling in. If you want more info, feel free to message me.
Yes, our son successfully appealed his undergrad scholarship amount a few years back, and the amount was increased.
That’s a great list of schools and the BA route can work out whether the student pursues music after graduating or not. He has already gotten into 8/9 so congrats!
Jacobs: am I imagining this or was the financial aid deadline earlier than the regular decision deadline for OOS students? I might be mixing it up with a different school.
St. Olaf is a great school for your S’s goals. However it is in the midwest so it sounds like it is outside of his preferred terrirory. I’m in the Twin Cities so there are a lot of St. Olaf grads working in the music/perfomance arena in this area (full and part-time). They are a very flexible and very well-respected program/school…for music and other areas. I’m not so sure how well-known they are as you get out of the midwest (or how big the alumni network is). That may be a consideration for your S. Where does he want to end up…and how does his school translate in that market. He has a lot of good choices so he’ll need to narrow it down in some way.
Got waitlisted from Northwestern.
I applied for composition and piano performance and I don’t know if I am waitlisted in both majors or only one of them.
Accepted for VP Soprano at CMU!
Accepted to CMU for voice!
Congrats to you, @sopranobanana!!
Son accepted to Boston University today for viola. One more to go and then we can focus on deciding!
