this has been a problem for a long time. I don't participate enough in class, according to my teachers. They give me bad participation grades. ITs a combination of things, including my high pitched voice (it hasn't cracked yet), my shyness, and the fact that I will be embarressed if I say something wrong by my teacher. Any tips on participating more? I can participate if its like a "recall a fact" question by the teacher, but most of the time its one of those discussion questions that I have hard time thinking about in such short of a time

I am going to tell you something, man.

Do you want to be able to work on this and have your teachers think nicely towards you?

If the answer is yes, then speak with your teachers in private about this. They will respect you if you are being honest and open and adult about this issue.

Oh and BTW all gentleman's voices break at different ages.

If your teachers are like mine, then they will randomly call on people whose hands are not raised, if they feel like theyr'e not participating enough, so you should try to volunteer info when you're absolutely sure, to avoid the embarrassment of not knowing.

As for the voice thing, all the guys are going through or have gone through the same thing. (As a senior girl, I tend to laugh at the freshmen guys voices, but it can't be helped)

I'm just worried I'll never go through puberty. I'm 16 and not a lot has happened

**** class participation. honestly, if somebody does not want to speak you shouldn't make him talk. thats not constructive at all, in my experience. they just get more afraid.

but if you want to y participate more, talk in the beginning. people tend to be less aware of other people during the beginning of a discussion, and its easier to say things in the beginning because the discussion is less developed.
