Class rank at a competitive small school

Hi all

My son goes to a rigorous public charter school held on a college campus in a neighboring town. He has received an excellent education, but his class rank doesn't look that impressive.

My son probably would have been in the top 5 at his local public high school (400 - 500 in his class). He would have definitely qualified for EFC (top 4%) at the UCs.

At his current school, he is ranked 6/76.....whoops, make that 6/73 as three more kids dropped out this week.......this is the trend at this school; students drop out if they can't handle the workload or if their grades are miserable.

My son's stats are great, but 6/73 looks so mediocre.

Anyway, I'm not all that concerned about this, but when I heard that three more kids dropped out, I just rolled my eyes.

How much importance do Adcoms put on class rank?

FresnoMom

I think you are overly worried. 6/73 is top 10%. This is where the school profile is important so that adcoms can know just how competitive the school is. I'll bet many of the top colleges in the region already are familiar with the HS.

the most important thing IMO are the classes that were taken and offered
My D was in a class of 18 and I beleive two students if not three recieved national merit awards- so it was fairly rigourous
Dont really know her rank- but she was admitted to all the schools she applied
Im sorry to hear that students are dropping out senior year- that is hard when you lose people right before the end.
