I have a lowish class rank (12% or 58/480) and I am aiming for top 25 schools. I have great ECs and test scores. I just have two questions:
How much will this class rank affect me for admission to these schools?
Does anyone know of anyone outside of the top 10% without hooks that got into top 25 schools?
Thank you.
Does your school report class rank? How many kids from your school go to the colleges you’re interested in? Those points will be more relevant than a group of internet strangers giving you anecdotes that might not apply to your situation. (But my kid is in a top 3 college and was not in the top 10%… not totally off the wall since his school sends a couple dozen to T25 schools each year though.)
I live in a competitive area and my 1st choice is UVA (instate). My school sends around 45 there each year, and my school does report rank.
So what percent of your class does the 45 who are admitted represent? Can you get an idea what the cutoff is?
I don’t have that information. If it helps, the average gpa for admitted people is a 4.3 and I’m 4.28.
Sounds like:
- You’re in the ballpark
and
- There’s not much you can do about this anyway
So… maybe not something to spend too much time worrying about.
If your school has 45 attending per year, that implies >100 applicants per year. Your school is well known by the AOs. Your class ranking doesn’t supply any more information than your GPA.
Ok I’m top 60-80% for my school
still got in top 20 LAC and UMich(Maybe not T25, but close enough)
It really just depends on ur school, do u have naviance to check scattergram?
Our school does not report ranking.
