How much does class rank effect applicants getting in?

i'm currently a junior
i have a 4.41 weighted
but i just found out that i'm ranked 37/402
it's still top 10%, but i thought i'd be higher with my grades
i think i just go to freakin smart school

but anyways, how much will the rank effect my application?

Are you instate (IS) or out of state (OOS)?
Class rank does matter, IMHO. If someone goes to a school where everyone gets A's, how does a university figure out who is the best student? One way will be by looking at rank. Also there are so many different grading systems everywhere, and this will bring folks back to rank. What's a 6.0 somewhere and a 4.0 elsewhere? But kids who are ranked the highest in their classes are obviously separating themselves from the pack.
Your rank is very good though. It shows that you are a very competitive student. And, yes, you may be going to a "freakin smart school". The Adcoms at all universities are very knowledgeable about the competitive nature of high schools; certain ones have reputations. This is, after all, their jobs>>they know.
Your IS or OOS status is very important in judging where you stand at this stage of the game. Best of luck. Don't throw in the towel!

i'm in state
my school has only been in existents for 2 years
so i don't think it has a reputation yet
hopefully though my rank will go up from now to the time that i apply

I agree with guillaume, if you maintain that top 10% rank as an instate student, you should be fine.
I know you are not naive, and clearly you've got to do well with testing and your LOR's, and essays......etc.
The fact that you are concerned now, bodes well for you!
