Class rank too low for Columbia?

<p>I've taken 7 AP's thus far and scored 2360 on the SAT. However, my class rank is 29/600, putting me barely inside the Top 5%. My school is not some ultra-competitive boarding school either, so will my low class rank be a red flag?</p>

<p>Some classmates (above me in class rank) are also considering Columbia. I truly wish the best for them, but historically, Columbia only accepts one applicant from my school per year, if any at all.</p>

<p>Should I even bother to apply (or daydream :D), given my class rank?</p>

<p>5% is high enough to compete. You may well have other qualities that make you more preferable in the admissions officer’s eyes. In any event, there is a degree of randomness in those admissions. Just put together your best possible application, and let the process play out.</p>
