When you send in your college applications, do you have to include your class rank or can you choose not to? On collegeboard it does say for some school tht it is important but do the colleges actually ask you for it?

In my neck of the woods the High schools no longer weight averages, and as a result they do not provide rank. On the last three college visits, the adcoms answered a similar question. All stated that the trend has moved to not weighting/ranking and it will not hurt you since only about half of HS continue to do this. I will try to find the link, but an article mentioned that about 16% of HS’s do not have val/sal either. The HS I teach at follows this as well.

Ok thank you…But my school does have class rank so that is what scares me… In the other requirements for the prestigious colleges though it says they look at weighted GPA also…

ask your guidance counselor if class rank is part of the transcript they send to colleges.

I did get a sample high school transcipt and it does contain weighted GPA… but it doesn’t show my class rank… it could be because I haven’t finished my junior year yet…
