Class Rank

Scenario: A school has 120 kids. It only reports class rank in deciles. Someone in the first decile is applying for a scholarship that requires them to put their exact class rank and the number of students.

Should they answer with 1/120?

12/120?

Somewhere in the middle?
1/12?

Does the scholarship have a contact number where you can ask? Many schools don’t rank.

If the scholarshp requires a number, then I would have my child estimate his place. Usually kids who are in the top 12 of a school, know pretty much where they are. They usually know how many kids would be ahead of them.

This is a question for your GC. Even at schools that don’t rank, rank in deciles have a system for providing exact rank for scholarship purposes.

Got it. Thanks @sybbie719 and @mom2collegekids. One more question. Do you know if there is a proper convention for converting grades on a 100 scale to a 4.0 scale?
