So two days ago, I saw the class breakdown for my grade. My school doesn't rank; it sends in a graphical breakdown of students' GPA's. The problem is my GPA is 4.72. The graph shows numbers for GPA's between 4.5 and 4.75 and 4.75+. There are 4 students in that top rank (2%) and 14 in the next (8% of the class, top 10%). Will it hurt that I'm in this second rank? The reason is because I took band and got an A for two years, which hurt my GPA.

anyone? i dont think it should matter a whole bunch but im just curious

it depends...what colleges are you looking at?

and band counts for GPA in your school? the only classes that count for GPA here are your core classes (math, english, foreign language, history, etc.)

well in the class breakdown with percentages, all classes count (including religion, which also can't get the honors/AP points)
I think my school sends a "school GPA", then an "Academic GPA (with only core courses)

I'm looking at upper tier schools, so far my number 1 is Penn and I'm looking at Duke, BC, Tufts, etc
