GPA vs. Class Rank

All right.

I'm a soon-to-be high school senior with an unweighted GPA of 3.66. Obviously, it is no 4.0, but it puts me well in the top 10% percent of my class and right outside the top 5%. Maybe one student in my entire class has over a 3.75 -- and that's a big maybe.

When it comes time to apply to college, am I going to be "punished" for having a lower GPA than many other applicants, or will my class rank make up for the fact that students at my school simply don't have a high grade point average? I've taken the most rigorous classes offered at my school (including all the honors and AP classes), but will my GPA still stick out like a sore thumb?

Thanks in advance for any help. :)

Only at state schools that use formulas.

At most selective schools it’s all about rank.
