Recently, I emailed my high school counselor about Class rankings and where I would stand. Her reply was "We do not rank, we use a decile system (complied each year in the fall for each senior class)."

I'm a bit confused about what a decile system is. Could somebody please explain? :)

Also, I was looking at the University of Southern California application and it says to write what your ranking is.. in my case would I leave that part blank?

Yeah, I know that rank was dropped two years ago in my school and we moved to the decile system as well, though usually on any form when they ask for rank, they say "if rank is not provided the give decile" or something to that, though nonetheless did she at least give you your decile grouping because that would be rather important.

Tonyt88: My counselor did not tell me which decile group I am in because I'm going to be a junior and the groupings are compiled in senior year. :)

hmmm, i know this can't really be answered, but if you put "Decile 1", ie. top 10%, admins can't really pinpoint where in the top 10 you are, correct ? I mean, if you're in a class of 450, you're somewhere in the top 45 of students, but can they possibly know if you're at the top/middle/bottom of that list ?

Someone on an another thread said that some guidance counselors will provide the GPA range for the decile you are in, so from that they could maybe get an idea of where you fall.
