I will be attending UCD starting in the Fall 2007 semester. I know that class registration and stuff is done during orientation, but I won’t be able to attend orientation because I will be out of the country at that time, so I already selected the “Unable to Attend” option on the MyAdmissions website.

I got a letter in the mail a while ago that said “Registration Materials Enclosed.” According to the Class Schedule and Registration guide, Pass 1 appointments for new students occur from Jun 22-Aug 24, and Pass 1 open registration is Aug 25-26. Pass 2 appointments are from Aug 27-Sep 7.

My question is: How do I tell when my appointment is? Do they assign it or do we apply for it? Also, since I will still be out of country during Pass 1 (I come back Aug 30), is my only choice applying during Pass 2? Or can I setup an appointment with a counselor or something ahead of time.

Also, does Pass 2 mean I can only register for classes that aren't full already (from people who registered in Pass 1)? A little confused about the difference between Pass 1 and 2.

Pass 1 is when you can only register for classes that arent full already. During Pass 2 you can waitlist on the full classes and during Open Registration you can add and drop as much as you want

I looked through the Class Schedule and Registration Guide and there are so many courses under Engineering (my major is Electrical Engineering) that I don't know what I should take each quarter, semester, etc. Since I can't go to my Pass 1 appointment, is my Pass 2 appointment where I can meet with a counselor/advisor/etc. to create my schedule? Or is there some place online that can help me figure out what classes to take?

Thanks for the help, I'll be a freshman this year and am just very confused about the whole class registration process (not being able to attend orientation probably doesn't help).

You should be able to register after Aug 17 (when orientation is over for the College of Eng), if not then Aug 25-26. Will you have internet access where you will be? Because class registration is done online, you don't actually have to meet with anyone for it. For your first quarter, take MAT21A or B depending on your AP score, they actually recommend that you take A no matter what, but I don't see why you should. After that it's ECS30, English (UWP1, ENG3, or Comp Lit 1,2,3,4, or NAS5), and a unrestricted elective. You should also take EEC1 since it'll be offered in Fall instead of Spring this year.

I went to Sisweb, then Register for classes, and clicked the View Holds link. It shows that I have this hold:

Engr-Advising Hold from Mar 27, 2008 to May 02, 2008
Processes affected is Registration

Does anyone else in engineering have a hold like this? I'm confused about the date (2008) it says. Is this something that will affect me registering for classes this coming year (starting in Fall 2007)?

All engineering majors are required to meet with an adviser for mandatory advising. It goes by last name and failure to release your hold by the deadline will result in the inability to enroll in courses during Pass I for the subsequent quarter.

It's like
A - G: Fall Quarter Hold
H - N: Winter Quarter Hold
O - Z: Spring Quarter Hold

My last name starts with a W, so I met with my adviser during Spring to lift my hold.
