Hello, I am a junior in high school and we are currently in the process of choosing classes for next year. My senior schedule looks like this so far:
-AP English Lit
-AP US Gov
-AP Macro Econ
-AP Biology
-AP CompSci A
-Linear Algebra/ Multivariate Calc
-[One Other]

I am stuck between AP Spanish Language and AP European History for the last spot. I know that I could get an A in either of them; I just want to know which one will look better to colleges. I'm not really "passionate" about either one (more of a Math/Science person, but don't really have many options in that area). I guess I might like AP Euro a bit more because I don't really like Spanish, but I'm worried that not taking a fourth year of Spanish may look bad. So which class do you guys think I should choose?

I’m sorry if the following advice doesn’t sound helpful, but I’d say to enjoy your senior year for yourself. The admission committee will not gasp at the fact that you decided to abandon something you despise for something you enjoy. Also, it’s your last year of high school, and after the tedious admissions process, you don’t want to end up with a rigorous schedule you don’t enjoy. Trust me, it sucks. It’s very difficult to motivate yourself against senioritis for classes that mean nothing to you. I’d say go for the one you enjoy more regardless of what the admissions committee might thing. Sorry about the rant.

If you haven’t taken four years of a foreign language yet, definitely do Spanish. Most top colleges (assuming those are what you’re looking at) require four years of a foreign language, and it generally does not look good to only take three where four were available.

Unrelated, I must say… Goodness, your school offers a lot of APs. Haha. My school certainly doesn’t have that many.

@ DiamantNoir: Thanks for the input and I can see your point. I would like to take some easy classes, but I pretty much have Valedictorian locked up at my school if I take one of those two AP classes in the last spot. So, because I have to take one of them, and I really don’t have much of a preference, I am going to base my decision of which one to choose off of which one will look better to colleges (need help on which one that is).

@Prussia!: Yeah, I think I’m leaning towards AP Spanish for now (unless others have a different view). I’m looking at MIT, Cal Tech, Ga Tech, Harvard, etc. Yeah, they do offer a lot of APs, I just wish they offered Physics C, oh well.

Wow, that’s a great schedule! Looks a lot like my senior year schedule, which has been mostly IB classes with a few APs. You’re so lucky you get to take Linear Algebra. lol I took BC as a sophomore and should have taken Calc 3 junior year so I could take linear algebra this year, but that didn’t happen because I had to take IB math, which was so easy it was a joke. =( And a lot of people say just to enjoy your senior year…I took a full schedule senior year, and honestly I think staying busy has kept me from feeling senioritis. So do what you want…AP Spanish is pretty easy.

Yeah, at college happy, you definitely made the right choice, bc IB is so much better than AP!
But MathBeast, just take weight training so I can be valedictorian…
