Does anyone know if the incoming class for the MT and Acting group really is 60? It has been rumored and I would like to know the truth, if anyone can provide it. That would be so much bigger than ever before! I know that Greg Bostwick told us at the info session that they shoot for 18 total each in the MT and acting programs. What happened?

I am guessing that this figure includes Theatre Arts majors in the BA program.

^^I think so too, prodesse. I am trying to confirm this as it was posted on one of the main threads that Ithaca accepted 60 into the BFA acting and MT programs combined. That can’t be right, right?

Hi everyone!
I’m an incoming freshman MT at Ithaca and 59 is the total number of acting and music theatre majors, per the department. A spoke on the phone with an upccoming junior MT who got an official list from the department.
This number discludes BAs and is only acting and music theatre. This is all I know, but 59 is the correct number.
They over accepted this year and more people accepted the offer than anticipated, but the department is incredible and all will work out.

Ejfmt13, I am worried about what this will mean in terms of casting for the next four years. What’s the buzz?

Prodesse, we aren’t worried about being cast. We know we’ll be getting trained by one of the best faculty in the country which will help us get cast after college…and that’s why we’re all going to college for a BFA in the first place, right?

Absolutely - the best possible training is certainly what my son is after. Still, it’s nice to get into a mainstage production from time to time…

Oh, I’m sure he will! He might have to work a little harder but isn’t that what college is for?

It’s always easier for boys anyway. So unfair, it’s like the corporate world, the girls have to be twice as good to get half as far.

I actually don’t think it’s that easy once you’re IN a school. Yes, when boys are auditioning for schools it is a little easier. However, I’ve talked to a couple of my guy friends in college and they told me that it’s just as challenging for boys because all of them are talented. One of them advised me to tell you that mindset will be out of your head the minute you see the other boys talent and you realize it isn’t your local theater community, it’s the big leagues.

…unless you’re a minority boy than it is easier.

For anyone who is checking in on this thread - I know the incoming class for the acting and MTs is bigger than usual this year. Lots of folks did not turn Ithaca down and I think that may be partly due to the fame of Jeremy Jordon and Aaron Tveit. However, the college has hired more faculty to handle this situation. It will be great for this incoming class to have more friends to work with and enjoy. Best of luck to the Class of '17.
