class size/lectures

I wanted to know from any current Wake Forest student if there are any classes in a big lecture hall with more than 20 students. I want to at least experience being in a large lecture hall in a big class at least once in my college experience. I just feel that this is important. Are all the classes really just ten kids and one professor? Even though I like that, I also feel intimidated by this fact.

It’s not uncommon to have a class with 35 or so students. I’m a freshman at wake and many of my classes have been about that size. If you want to go even bigger, I hear some of the introductory science courses have 50 or so students. Most classes are not ten kids and a professor, but the 15-20 range is not unusual.

My freshman daughter seconds Sam998. Most of her classes have been in the 30-40 person range. Freshman seminar was 18 (they keep those purposely small), and her 200-level French class had 16, which was her smallest (think 100-level ones are larger). It probably will depend somewhat on your major. She will take accounting next year and heard that runs about 50 students. As someone who’s been in both types of classes, I wonder why you’d want a huge class! I am an introvert, but even so, the huge lecture-style classes I had in college put me to sleep, whereas the smaller ones were much more stimulating and interesting.

Accounting is definitely going to be a huge class because it’s a prerequisite for entry to the business school.
