What is the typical class size for courses at harvard?

merci---------

I heard that some of the classes, typically the required freshman courses and such, are huge, 100+ kids in the lecture halls.

But the information they (Harvard) sent me said the majority of their classes are really small, as in, >15 students.

There is no typical class size. They range from 500+ students (broken down into discussion sections of 18) to one student and two professors. USNews has some data about the number of classes in different size categories that can help you compare schools.

Everybody has a different idea of what's an "easy walk." Virtually all undergrad classes take place within a half-mile radius of the middle of campus. As a freshman, unless you take an Asian language, the odds are very good that all of your classes will be within a 5 minute walk of your dorm.

what do you mean by 'broken down into discussion sections'? How does that work?

It means that you meet in the big class with the professor 2-3 times a week (this is the actual course), and then you also meet once a week with a much smaller group where you talk about the material with your classmates and a TF (usually a grad student).

One student and two professors? That'd be quite interesting...:)
