"a" means first semester i believe.

"b" for second.

"a" means first semester i believe.

"b" for second.

masamune's right - 200/201 is a 2-semester course, with 200 only offered 1st semester and 201 only offered 2nd semester... this is why it's difficult to start the physics sequence second semester: you have to start in the second half of the course.

and yup, just for general reference, "a" designates a course as first semester, "b" as second semester.

what courses do you guys reccommend we take for an MCDB major....and if we get into Perspectives?

suburbian:

are you currently taking Physics C to feel comfortable enough with 200/201?

mr_sanguine - i'd recommend math, the intro bio courses (but if you got a 5 on the AP, most of my friends have said that it's definitely worthwhile to think about using the AP score to place out of mcdb120a and e&eb122b and start with the more advanced/interesting courses required for the major), and chemistry (either general chem or orgo, depending on your prior preparation in chem). you can wait 'til sophomore year for physics.

basically:
frosh - math, intro bio, chemistry
sophomore - more bio, physics, orgo/other chem

the more AP credits you have though, the more of the prereqs you can skip over/the more flexibility you'll have in scheduling.

i dont have the foreign language though... So which should I postpone for sophomore year?

I have the 5 in bio, but I kind of want to take the courses again...just as review for MCAT and mb easy A.

Athena -- I don't have the language requirement though. So which should i postpone for sophomore year?

I have the 5 in bio, but I kind of want to take the bio sequence, just as MCAT review and maybe an ez A

Can't you guys relax and enjoy the rest of your senior year. We just got through a grueling admissions process. No need to go crazy thinking about next year's classes. I am throughly enjoying senioritis, a beautiful spring and looking forward to a great summer. Relax! It's over!! We are in!!

haha im in a perpetual state of stress. i don't know why - i guess im just wired that way. now that im into yale, im STILL worried as hell about my APs to place out of courses next year. even my mom has said that i should stop working so hard.

Let's say you decide not to take the AP Bio or AP Chem exams. Is there still a way to skip the intro classes, for instance, by petitioning professors?

Conwoman. Repeat after me.

"I am going to Yale, for Christ's sake. My acceptance letter will not be revoked if a few B's appear on my final report card because I am easing up. My mother is right that I deserve a break for busting my ass the last 3 1/2 years. I am going out with my friends this weekend and having not just a good but a great time. I will take long walks in the afternoon sun, listen to my favorite music and IM my friends till my fingers bleed. I owe it to myself to slack off a bit and learn to relax. I will coast till graduation and not care what people think. I will be relaxed and ready for the greatest four years of my life."

Repeat this over and over. If that does not work, try your mantra.

OM!!!!!!!!!OM!!!!!!!!OM!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, it worked for me.

oh, come on... after i got into yale last year, even after i gave up on APs and things like that, i was still obsessed with the course catalog. just because there's so much amazingly interesting stuff in it.

... if you go on my facebook profile (well, i suppose most people here won't be able to get onto facebook 'til they get their yale email addys this summer), the yale blue book (a.k.a. the course catalog) is listed under my favorite books. :-P

but yeah, at this point, looking thru the course catalog should be for fun, just to see what yale offers, not b/c you're worried about what classes to take and how to fulfill distributional requirements and all that rot. advisers will make sure all that gets straightened out next year

and conwoman ~ to place out of intro bio you do need to have the AP bio score. chem, it's a little different - there's a placement test at the beginning of the year. if you have a good AP score, they'll automatically place you into 118a, and the placement test is to qualify you for frosh orgo; if you don't have an AP score/didn't take the test, they'll place you into 113 or 114, and you'll have to do well on the placement test to get into anything higher.

basically, just decide whether you'd rather take the AP test or have to take a placement exam when you get here

The way I see it, you might be busting more next year but you'll be having a LOT more fun as well :)
