Classes P/NP

<p>So I've been searching the Berkeley website and couldn't find an answer...so I figured it would be more efficient to ask here since someone probably knows and the deadline is tomorrow.</p>

<p>I know taking major pre-reqs P/NP doesn't count, but are you allowed to take major class P/NP and then RETAKE it for a grade? One of my friends told me you can only retake classes that you fail (NP) so if you take a major class P/NP are you basically ****ed and can't do that major anymore? What's the deal?</p>

<p>And would it look quite bad if I were to do that? (take a major class P/NP and then for a grade)</p>

<p>I've talked to an advisor about this, and she said that they can petition to know the actual grade that you would have gotten if you hadn't had taken it P/NP. However, I don't think this is always possible, so I don't quite exactly know what they would do if they couldn't retrieve the actual grade...</p>

<p>Do you know if you can take a class P/NP, pass it, and then retake it later for a grade?</p>
