Classes...

Dumb Question:

Excatly WHAT do you normally bring to classes in college?

Like a notebook? Notepad? Journal? what?

I've been accusttomed to bringing folders for each class.

Oh and btw what notebooks are good for classes in college? For high school I ahd a huge binder with 5 sections for each class, what abot college?

^^
I carry the same thing you do. Ring binder, not huge, with dividers for each course.

Spriral notebook. I ended up bringing a folder to one of my classes last term because we got a lot of handouts.

oh yea, alot of paper protector thingies.

It really depends on the class. For some I just use a spiral notebook, and a folder. For others I need a binder. Depends on the class

I agree with monarchsfan16, it depends on the class. I prefer to take my notes in a notebook...binders **** me off. I get paper lost and I never like to put it back in the binder...

I've always wanted to try taking my notes on a laptop but they're a pain to carry around to all the classes and I think the constant clicking of keys is gonna annoy other people in a small class.

I say take notes on whatever works best for you/for the class :)

I bring loose pieces of paper, sometimes a legal pad so I can rip the pages off as I need them. Never a notebook or a binder. I only get good grades when my papers are loose and flying everywhere.

Also I bring two pencils in case I break one or wear one down. I prefer pencils because I like to erase.

I stuff all my papers into the book itself or if it's math I use a two-pocket folder because that class generates a lot of stuff, plus I use it to store graph paper. That folder is about as hardcore as I get when it comes to organization.

My trunk is a mess, as I just stuff everything in it. But who cares? When you have a good GPA you don't care about organization as long as what you're doing works.

Usually just a spiral notebook/legal pad, a pen, and a pencil. If I need paper, printouts, etc., I stuff all of them in a small file folder and stick it in a textbook I might be needing.

Last term, instead of having a huge binder with everything in it, I had two smaller binders. I had one for Monday+Wednesday, and andother for Tuesday+Thursday (how my schedule was set up). It was alot more convenient.

I haven't had too many handouts in my cc classes, so I just use legal pads - very nice for note taking.

Tip on legal pads: When you go to get them at the office supply store, get a four-pack of recycled pads. It will cost you under $10, give you about 400 sheets of paper (800 really since you can write on both sides), should last a good while, and also helps the environment as a bonus.

I also prefer the feel of recycled paper. I don't know why, it just seems to absorb the lead better or something. It also always costs less--"new" pads seem to be much more expensive.

it really depends on what you prefer. i know some kids who always took notes on legal paper. some kids always took notes on their tablet pc's. i had one one subject notebook that i used for all of my classes... so my first class monday would be on page two, my second class on page 3, etc then tuesday and so forth.. (yeah, i'm not very organized) but i never took a lot of notes, so that worked for me. i had separete folders for each class though to keep all of my handouts and whatnot apart from each other... other than that everything kind of all mushed together, but i got good grades so it doesn't really matter.. that's my style.

as for what else to bring to class...

you sort of know at the beginning if you should bring your text book or not, but i recommend bringing a notebook, a folder, a penci or pen (or two).. a calculator is good to keep in your backpack because you never know when you'll need it.. and a planner to write down meetings and things like that.. i would of been dead without mine.

My computer (even if I won't be using it during class this way I can check email during the 5 minute break in the middle of class and make sure no meeting times for later that day have changed etc)
Pad of Ampad green engineering paper
Pencils
Folder for storing old problem sets, notes, etc
Leatherman
RPN calculator
Text or books being read in the class if needed
Headphones (especially for project classes, obviously not used when a prof is talking)

No one at my school uses laptops to take notes - and I'm very happy about it. There was a kid in one of my classes in high school who sat near me and always took notes on his laptop and the sound of typing was insanely distracting.

I think I'll just stick to my senior year deal:

Pocket Folders, Loose Leaf Papers, Pens, Mech Pencils and Spiral Notebooks for classes involving problems, such as Calc or Physics.

It always amuses me when people talk about laptops being annoying. Maybe it's that I go to a school where everyone uses laptops constantly, but I just can't imagine anyone caring about the fact that someone is typing.

It's not like the laptops have one of those old IBM Model M keyboards (the clicky kind) in them...those keyboards were amazing yet so loud.

BTW: If you have one there's still a good aftermarket for them! I have one and it's actually customized...

Pretty much all I bring to class is a spiral notebook and something to write with. I have a binder for each class for handouts and such. Before the tests, I like to rip my notes out of my notebook and put them in my binder so everything I have to study is in one place...but that's just me.

I use a 1" binder with 5 of those plastic page-holder thingies (hard to describe, basically it's a thin plastic divider that has pockets for small amounts of paper on either side). In one of the pockets I keep some blank paper, and the rest hold notes for each individual class/lab. When the day is over, I take all the full sheets and dump them into my big 2" binder that I only look at during exam time. Great system!

Freshman year I had a spiral notebook per class, and a folder for handouts per class. This year I just take my laptop to class and type notes, and a folder for handouts.
