Classes

Okay this is the situation. I’m a senior and just finished my college process. However, I’m worried about some stuff:

Information about my high school:
-it’s in NYC
-extremely rigorous - 2.6% acceptance rate
-things that make my school different are that we are not allowed to choose our own classes until junior year. Plus, there are no honors courses. All classes are taught at the honors level yet they are categorized as “regular.” When it comes to AP classes, at our school, you have to apply to get take them and you can only take them during your junior and senior years (2 maximum per year for a total of 4).

As you can tell, my school is not the typical high school where students can select the courses they want to take.

My concerns are:

  1. How do colleges view this?

Plus, I have a question about my math courses. I’ve taken the most reigorous course offered to me: 4 AP’s, reached Advanced Physics, reached Spanish 4, except for math. At my school, the series of math classes goes like this: Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus. In order to take AP Calc, you must start 9th grade taking Geometry. I didn’t start in geometry becuase my middle school didn’t offer algebra 1 as a course. Will this affect me? I’m stuck in pre-calc for senior year.

FYI: i applied to all my schools as a spanish major

I guess my worry is that there are so many things that make my hs different that, in comparison to other student across the country, my classes seem weak. I’ve heard of kids who take 5, 6, 7, AP classes a year and have a total of like 15 at the end of senior year. I just don’t think it’s fair that I’m restrained to certain limits and that I can’t do anything about it. I don’t want colleges to think that my rigor is not enough (some of these things are not mentioned on the school profile).

Also: my school does not give students credit if they do online classes, dual enrollment, or anything else. This I think is extremely unfair.
