Housing , rigor of program, faculty support and any recommendations for applying. Thanks for the info.
DS stayed in Holmes this past year. Very well located on campus, near library, student center, dining hall, stadium. One of the nicer dorms. Enjoyed being with all of the other honors students and rapidly met people to hang out with. They have meeting space in the ground level, which I understand is frequently used. Students take at least one designated honors class per semester, although can take more. There are regular opportunities for students to get involved with honors staff and other honors students, although with much of college it’s what each individual student makes of it. You are not “forced” to participate, but a lot of meaningful opportunities to do so. As to rigor, as with all honors students, he was an excellent student in HS. At Clemson, he is an eng major and has found classes definitely take sustained, focused effort to do well in. (I know his roommate, who was a physics major, also found the same.) Overall, he reports he has found a community of bright, motivated, talented fellow students to spend time with and is very glad to be there and very satisfied with academic experience. . He also enjoys interacting with the broader Clemson community, so is not living in an “honors bubble” but taking advantage of what honors offers and what Clemson offers. As to applying, can’t offer much insight. Think it’s largely based on grades (once you’re at Clemson) and grades and scores (if you’re applying from HS.) Always important to write a thoughtful essay. He adores Clemson and could not be happier there. Hope that helps.
@osaycanuc Thanks so much for your information. We’ll make sure to put quite a bit of effort into our essay . My son is a very good student with a good GPA and lots of ECs, honors and AP classes, but then again, I’m sure all the applicants are. Was your son admitted as a freshman?
Happy to help. Yes, he entered as a freshman. Sounds like your son has a great shot, just be sure to get things in by the deadline and you should be all set. One benefit to Clemson is they are great about accepting AP credits. Good luck and Go Tigers!
@osaycanuc We’ll be ready to go August 1. Thanks again .
