Clemson Spring Blitz vs regular visit?

Trying to plan a trip to visit Clemson for D19. D is not a big rah rah school type of girl so I am a little worried the Spring Blitz will be too much for her and maybe a regular visit and tour would be better? Clemson was not on her radar because she is worried about going to a school that is too “southern” but I think it looks like a great fit for her and would like her to see it for herself.

Has anybody been to one of the Fall/Spring Blitz days? Are they super crowded? Well organized?

Thanks!

So is she graduating in 2019? If she has good test scores, have the testing company send them to Clemson this spring and then maybe you will be invited to Discover Clemson, which is in May, and is designed for Juniors who are likely scholarship recipients. We had sent my son’s last year and he received an invitation. It was very organized…covered all the bases…scholarships, honors, two academic visits, housing tour, campus tour and lunch on campus. Started at 8:30 and ended about 2:00. I’ve never been to Spring Blitz so can’t help you on that.

@momtogkc we attended Spring Blitz last year. It was super crowded, but well organized. We also attended a private tour through the department my son was interested in and a general tour. If you think she will get overwheled then Spring Blitz will be too much for her in my opinion. Definitely schedule an information session/tour with the department she is interested in.

Thank you! @mweb136, I don’t think she will be overwhelmed, more like annoyed with the crowds. :))

@TexasStudent2018 Yes, she is a junior now and graduates in 2019. She got a 32 on her first ACT - I don’t know if that is good enough to be invited to Discover Clemson. I think I would worry that we wouldn’t get invited and then maybe wait too long to plan our trip!

I was going over our schedule for the next few months and we are a lot busier than I realized - I may not have a choice of when to visit! I am hoping to figure it out in the next few days though.

@momtogkc That should be fine! I think, generally, it is the group that is in scholarship range, and yours clearly is, with a little room for margin. You could even call and ask, and I’m pretty sure they’d tell you that it would be good enough. Mine was 1400 and he got a $7500 scholarship - you should be in the same boat or higher. Loved Discover Clemson - but it is in May and he got lucky that it didn’t mess up Finals, so that’s another consideration. You’ll love it whenever you go!

DS admitted for Fall2018 Engineering. I asked admissions if he would miss anything not attending Spring Blitz and just doing the regular admissions/engineering/honors/RISE tours we schedule ourselves. They said it isn’t any different and do what works best for your schedule. The blitz events do tend to be more crowded so if that’s a factor a regular visit would be just fine.

@momtogkc , we did the Spring Blitz this past Spring when DS was a junior. Pro is that all the info. is there at one time but Con is that yes it’s crowded. Lots of groups of like a dozen people per tour guide floating around campus. But it’s very organized. I would just say that in order to get your specific questions answered, you’d want to stay afterwards or do what we did…walk at the front of the group right next to tour guide so we had her ear most of the time as we walked to the next location.

Thanks - we have ruled out the Spring Blitz and are now working on picking a weekend after that. I will probably call today to ask about Discover Clemson.

What major is she considering? My daughter is a senior this year at Clemson and she didn’t really like the crowds during spring blitz either.

@shemcreek D has no idea what she wants to study yet. The only thing she knows is it won’t have anything to do with math! Looks like we will probably go up the end of April. We are trying to work around volunteer project she and her friend do every Saturday through March (we are going together) and other various trips we have planned.

" he got a $7500 scholarship" – Can you please be specify what this scholarship is? It sounds like he would be getting the SC Palmetto which is standard for whichever school you attend in SC, not additional merit from Clemson specifically. If I am wrong, then please let me know. My D got into the Calhoun Honors College, however, we are still waiting for the financial aid package to come.

I believe that is the OOS Merit scholarship. They have 3 based on stats.

$7500 for over 29 ACT, $10,000 for 32 and $15,000 for above 34. Those ACY numbers may not be exact but I think those are them.
