Clemson / USC-columbia / Furman ... waiting, waiting

Why does Clemson wait so late to give out merit scholarships? At an accepted student gathering, admissions stated that perhaps the first week of April but definately by 2nd or 3rd week. That gives one week until decision time.

So, my D has decided that she wants to major in psychology (experimental) and perhaps go onto med school. She has applied & been accepted to Clemson, USC-columbia and Furman. USC-columbia has invited her into their capstone program and she was invited into preston residential college. She also has received merit and legacy $$ (her mom is an alumni). At Furman, she was a finalist for the Hollingsworth Scholarship ($25K/yr) and interviewed last Friday. We should hear about this in about a week. At Clemson, we have not heard a word to date.

Any recommendations on which of these schools are best for psychology? Furman is a prestigious LAC and much different from the two big state schools. Decision may come down to $25-$30K loans at graduation for Furman versus $0 loans at USC-columbia. Could not guess for Clemson yet, as all is quiet.

it does take a while, but they also do not accept the majority of their students until February anyway, unless they are clearly over their minimum standards of 1350 SAT/top 10% class ranking. USC Columbia may be offering you scholarships and honors college, but remember that to acheive the same at Clemson is a little more difficult...Furman is a private school, so they are fortunate to be able to pledge more $$. at Clemson, it's purely an academic decision. I know they will be handing out final decision first week of April so if you are getting one, it would be then.

thanks for replying to my rant. And sorry about that, but this is a tough time for students and parents alike. I am a clemson alumni so I know about the school and that it has an excellent engineering program. Just not sure how it's psychology program compares to the others. My D is accepted but she did not make 1350 SAT or better. At the reception, I asked specifically about this score as I have seen post on this before. He stated that the SAT and class rank were not the only things considered in determining scholarships. However, I am holding my breath about it... but I am praying for a miracle. :-)
