So I’m a sophomore & I was thinking of studying for & taking a few CLEP tests over the summer. I’ve already checked that my top college choices accept them. Is this a good idea & if so how should I study? Thanks!
If your college choices accept them, they can be a great tool. Back in the day, I completely eliminated the need to take any math or science classes in college by taking CLEP tests. I am old so I study with books. The library may have CLEP exam test books. Otherwise, look at the AP College Board site as it handles CLEP as well and do those practice tests.
I am trying to convince my S17 to CLEP out of math. He is dyscalculic and I hate the idea of him wasting one minute of time on math.
Thanks & one more thing …about how long does it take to study for a test? @techmom99
Everyone is a little different in how much time they need to study for an exam. It starts with how much background you already have with the topic. Definitely take a look at the free resource CLEP has on their website about the exams you are looking at since they will have a very rough outline/breakdown of the topic, plus they have suggested textbooks. It is always a good starting point and then you should also find some resources at your public library (I know, a little archaic, right?).
My kids take CLEP exams. My 9th grader took the US History I a couple of weeks ago and scored high enough to get credit at any university that offers it. She took it after just taking US history. (She is taking the 2nd US exam in May.). My 12th grader will have completed well over 30 hrs via CLEP credit.
They use many of the free online resources. Just google free Clep practice xxx. The REA prep books are also good for practice.
My son is a junior and he will be studying for two Cleps this summer, make sure you look at the college you want to attend as many only accept certain tests, like he can take sociology but not psychology. He already clep tested for Calculus, that allowed him to place in Calc 2 and now he will do,sociology and economics. We will use instacert, I hear it is good and the rea books. We used rea for the Calc test.
Yea I plan on going to TAMU & I’ve already checked which CLEP tests they accept…thanks
