I am a senior with an interest in neuroscience. The only two schools in Georgia with that major that I have found are GSU and Emory University. I found out just yesterday that I had been rejected from Emory(no surprises there) and I anticipate that I will be accepted into GSU. The problem with that is the fact that I have every intention of attending UChicago in graduate school for Computational Neuroscience, and I don't think that they would accept someone from GSU. Would it be possible to spend a year at GSU, transfer to Georgia Tech my sophomore year, and then transfer somewhere else with a Neuroscience major (either Emory or Vanderbilt) to finish my undergraduate degree?

What makes you think it is impossible to get into U. Chicago from GSU? It’s true that GSU is not the typical feeder school for Chicago grad programs, but if you have the GRE score, GPA, and research experience, you can get in from any number of schools. GSU has a pretty strong neuroscience program, so there are potential opportunities for undergrad research, which is important if you want to go to grad school. I would suggest you email a professor whose research interests you and ask about the process of becoming an undergraduate researcher at GSU. Tech also partners with Emory and GSU through our NeuroLab and Psychology departments. I would caution you against switching schools multiple times. That will make it difficult to establish a relationship with a professor or lab long enough to have competitive research experience. You also do NOT have to major in neuroscience as an undergrad to get into top neuroscience grad programs.

What makes you think UChicago doesn’t accept GSU undergrads?
