It's raining out :( (rain for the last week) and I am bored so I decided to pull out mapquest. Is the closest big mountain near Dartmouth Killington, which is an hour away (35 min, if i am driving), or is there a closer big mountain that I missed?

haha 35 minutes if i am driving...why, whatcha got there? an enzo?

I think Killington is the closest large mountain to Dartmouth but Im not positive.

nah(but I wish)..where I live, its a requirement to be able to drive an suv at around 60 on narrow one lane roads if you want to get anywhere.

Mapquest says okemo takes about the same time. I also forgot Sunapee.

are there any others under an hour?

Smarts, Cardigan, and Ascutney are all about 15-25 miles away (in different directions), though about 1,000' lower than Killington. I've only climbed Smarts--on a clear day you can see Mt. Washington--but all three seem worth a visit.

As far as 4000'ers go, Killlington is probably closest, followed by Moosilauke. Maybe Abraham/Ellen in VT too.

^those would be for hiking/backpacking right, not for skiing?

Sugarbush and Mad River are about 1hr 15 away. Don't fret. Snow is acomin on tues and more next week! Jay Peak however far away it is has most snow anywhere...another goody is Burke. old fashioned style, narrow trails.

Correct, though there is skiing on Mt. Ellen and Ascutney.

ya, next week looks much better....hopefully

Mt. Sunapee isn't too far away, but it's smaller than Killington.
