Club vs School SPORTS

Most of the teachers who I've talked to have said that colleges won't differentiate between club and school soccer(For example). Is this true?

It depends on what you did with the club. Getting a varsity letter is much more impressive than being in a rec league, the skill of whose members is questionable. On the other hand, if you are on a traveling team that wins lots of tournaments, then that would probably be more impressive than just being on the school team. So there's no easy answer to your question.

Ok. Would one recieve a varsity letter simply by playing on the varsity team?

That's the way it worked at my school.

If you are talking about a selective team, then you should mention in your app that you had to try out or explain whatever the selection process was. The point between varsity, clubs, etc. is not WHO you play for but what skill you have and what you've accomplished. If you are on a rec league team, then that will probably not be as impressive as a school varsity player. If you are on a year-round select team that competes at a high level, that will be much better than a regular old school varsity member. However, adcoms will not be able to differentiate the two if you just put "club soccer." Sell your skills as much as possible, and when filling out your app, do not be afraid to spill all the details about an activity that is important to you, or that will better represent your talents.

Thanks for the advice.

One more quick question, are letters of recommendation from my "Club" coach any less valuable then, let's say, my science teacher's?

Yes they're less valuable. Teacher recs are required; coach recs are not. Hence, Princeton weighs the former more heavily.
