What’s some good clubs and restaurants in the area?
For College Students:
Clubs:
-Scorekeepers Bar and Grille (“Skeeps”)
-Rick’s American Café (“Rick’s”)
-Necto (for themed nights, concerts, and LGBTQ+ events, otherwise I would definitely skip)
-Study Hall Lounge
-Cantina (especially on Tuesdays)
^Those are ranked in order of quality, except I would put Skeeps and Rick’s at about the same level.
Restaurants:
-too many to mention here, but depends on the occasion, your state of mind (sober, drunk, stoned, etc.), who you are eating with, and how much $$$ you are willing to drop
My personal favorites after a party are Pancheros, Jimmy Johns, Big Ten Burrito, and South U Pizza.
The best pizza place in AA is Jet’s, by far. That being said, the pizza in Ann Arbor leaves a lot to be desired, speaking as a New Jersey kid.
For breakfast/brunch, check out Sava’s and Frank’s.
Everyone always talks up Zingerman’s, so definitely try that if possible.
NeoPapalis is the best pizza (wood fired thin crust). It was rated in the top 50 college pizza joints nationally.
Look on yelp for restaurant reviews; good food ranges from super cheap (e.g. Jerusalem Garden, Chellas) to pretty pricey (e.g. Pacific Rim) with lots in the middle. There are well over 100 places in walking distance from campus. There are also greasy spoons like the Fleetwood and Blimpy Burger
Never been there - I’ll definitely check it out after break. Looks promising!
The pizza with curry chicken, arugula, red sauce, spicy olive oil and garlic is my favorite. They have an excellent selection of ingredients, all very affordable even on a student budget ($9-12 for pizza, feeds 2-3). No tipping either.
Pizza Bob’s!!! Best shakes (hot fudge chocolate chip) and salad pitas!!
NeoPapalis is sounding like the right place to go! Isn’t even 8AM and got me thinking about pizza! lol
There will be a new Buddy’s Pizza on the outskirts of town. First one outside of metro Detroit.
^^^^i guess it’s already opened. Sounds like they’re having growing pains too. Too bad, their pizza is usually excellent.
My favorite pizza in Ann Arbor back in my day was Anthony’s. I am not sure if it is still around, or if new pizzerias outdo it these days, but Anthony’s was pretty awesome.
Zingerman’s sandwiches are excellent, but they are on the expensive side.
For breakfast, Angelo’s is an institution, if you do not mind waiting in line and clogging your arteries!
As far as clubs go, yikesyikesyikes mentioned most of them. The Blind Pig is also decent.
Something else to keep in mind is that Ann Arbor is pretty centrally located. If one has a car and is willing to drive 45 minutes, Royal Oak has some pretty good options. Of course, one can always cross over to Windsor in Ontario, where the drinking age is 19.
I was wondering why Angelo didn’t make the breakfast list. Is it still as popular as it used to be?
Best restaurant for dinner in Ann Arbor and to impress a date: Pacific Rim.
@GoBlue81 , Angelo’s is overrated, there are much better breakfast places in AA. They have good sandwiches though, and a great location near the hill dorms and hospital.
@Alexandre , Anthony’s is still really good if you want deep dish pizza. We use them for catering sometimes - really great for parties or a lower budget event. A single piece is a meal for most people, 2i f you are hungry, 3 for teenagers.
Near 20 years living in Ann Arbor, I had lunch once at Angelo’s only even I did work across the street. The line is simply too long for a hungry man.
Last time we were in Ann Arbor we went to Angelo’s. It was great. Good food and good service. Last time prior it was like 25 years ago… It was actually as good as we remembered it to be.
Angelos is a diner, both in terms of motif and in terms of menu. If you don’t like diner food, I would not recommend going there. But if one is looking for a breakfast diner, and does not mind waiting 30-45 minutes in line, Angelos is a great experience.
They are well know for raisin toast, (very thick and homemade) .
