Hey guys, to everyone who was wait listed, Iâm going to be completely frank here and let u know itâs not worth it. My sister was wait listed and the year that the school took 75 people off the list was really an outlier. Wait listing is a terrible process and you guys should focus on the schools you got into and not put hopes on a school that probably wonât even look at the wait list. Especially for those with higher stats and better ECs/essays, Claremont knows you all will be accepted to better schools and hence probably wonât take you off the waitlist because they think you wonât actually come. Also, the school is CRAZY expensive and they donât often give people on the waitlist much money cause well they donât need to motivate you to come. It sucks to be waitlisted but it is worse to be on the list. My sister goes to UC San Diego now and she absolutely loves it when she was devastated on Claremont just a few years ago (she even has friends that transferred out of Claremont because they didnt like it there). Just my 2 cents here, I hope you all take care of yourselves and your families through this process <3
Interestingly, CMC bucked the trend in the surge of applications, seeing a slight decrease from last year. However, the admit rate dropped from 10.4% to 8.9% as they admitted only 558 students. By comparison, last year they accepted 658 students. That means the total applicant pool this year was approximately 6270 students (last year was 6349, the year before 6342). Compare this to 3 years ago, when they had 7156 applicants and accepted 784! Amazing how the accept rate has plunged, and consequently yield has surged.
Of the other 5Câs, Pomona, Pitzer, and Scripps had significant increases in applicants; HMC was the same as 2017.
Since CMC accepted fully 100 less than last year, my guess is they want to guard against over enrollment. That might be good news for those on the waitlist. It appears lots of highly selective colleges and universities are waitlisting more applicants, and admitting fewer, as the surge in applications nationwide is causing concern as to who will be going where.
in case anyone was wondering if they are taking people off the waitlist this year, I just got in today! the admissions office called me and told me i had until monday to decide
Congratulation!! Could you please let us know which coast are you located ? Also what could be the additions that made you off the waitlist ? Thanks so much!!
@Jaisairam Thank you! Iâm from California (Bay Area) and I honestly donât know why I got off the waitlist. I didnât do an interview (i didnât know I had to request it) or a video, and I didnât send in a letter of continued interest, so Iâm very confused.
Thats awesome!!i just got an email requesting to update the waitlist status.I did but there is no confirmation mail i received. Did you get an email before getting off the waitlist?Just a kind of worried.I did LOCI but not the video.obviously,I donât want to make often calls.
@happywaffles Curious of your outcome at CMC and of you ended up running somewhere if not CMC. Also what you meant by ârecruited athleteâ and of you had an actual positive pre-read and how that dialogue went with GS etc al.
