I posted this already in the Haverford forum, but decided to post this here as well in order to hear both sides of the coin :].

I know Haverford has a stellar science department, and although CMC is a more political/economic centered school, their Joint Science program and the 5 C Consortium is extremely unique. (I believe 100% of CMC's 2008 medical school applicants got into their 1st or 2nd choice medical school)

I was wondering for someone who was interested in getting into a great medical school, would you choose Haverford or CMC? and why?

Also, study abroad, internships, and research is a huge factor in making my decision.

Thanks!

I’m also considering how easy/hard it is to get into popular science classes, and the size of the classes as well…

You can’t go wrong with either school. Your ability to get into a top med school will be determined by your achievements at the school you pick… not which school you pick. I wonder, however, if it might be a little easier to standout and get special attention at CMC since there are probably fewer pre-med students?

CMC really emphasizes the many possibilities to do research and how that sets apart their undergrads when it is time to apply to professional schools, including med school.

I think if med school acceptance is your sole criterion then one might give CMC the edge because of the internship/research opportunities they practically guarantee. The rest of the decision will come down to the unavoidable “fit” advice. Do you want to be in sunny Southern California with 4 other LACs in walking distance and L.A. a possible, but not super easily accessible, destination, or do you prefer a small LAC in the Northeast with its consortium colleges possible, but not super easily accessible possibilities, but downtown Philly a quick and easy train ride away?
