CMC vs. Pomona

What do you guys think??

And what is the exact relationships between the 5 Claremont schools.. How is it good and bad etc...

Pomona is more liberal, Claremont the more conservative of the 2. Pomona is more liberal arts core. CMC is more business/economics. The 2 schools are rivals more then any others of the 5 colleges stemming from sports. Both are amazing schools, both have very strong school spirit and students at both schools seem passsionate about their school. I have not met many unhappy campers at either of them.

Oh... If I'm wanting to major in English or Art History, is CMC a mistake.. Should I have applied to Pomona instead?

:/

If you want to be an English or Art History major at CMC, it's not a mistake. I have friends doing this. If you have no interest in CMCs stronger points, however--econ, politics--then you might not be too happy with some of your general ed requirements. After you get past that, however, you can take all the English and Art History classes you want at any of the schools (Pomona and Scripps are the strongest in both of these). I don't know how the rest of CMC's GE reqs. compare to the other schools, so overall you might have less GEs (I have NO idea...I do know that Pomona has quite a few, though), but some of these will be related to more maintream-CMC fields.

what are cmc's general ed requirements?
and how long do i have to do these for?

well in HS, i never took econs and politics, so i do want to take courses in these.. but is CMC's core curriculum very heavily focued on these subjects?

and are most cmc students into econs and politics...?

oh, and in response to arizonamom .. conservative in what way?

Each Claremont college has certain strengths, and I would say that aside from Mudd, CMC draws the most students based on these specific areas (econ, politics, business). I don't know the GE reqs...you could probably find them on the website. You do them until you finish them ;-) I'm almost positive they require at least one econ course as well as a US history course. I don't remember what else, but I know that some of their reqs are focused on this type of area (but certainly not all of their reqs). There are of course plenty of students who don't major in these areas, but the vast majority have at least a pretty good interest in these topics.

CMC is known as the most conservative among the Claremonts (but it's all relatives, the Claremonts in general are pretty liberal). A very generalized belief is that, overall, students tend to be economically conservative, and more socially conservative than students at the other 4Cs (but again, it's all relative).

Silver, did you not receive a CMC catalog? The admission's office is pretty generous in mailing the catalogs out. If you did not receive one in themail, you can download it here: http://www.claremontmckenna.edu/admission/catalog/

The GE requirements are covered in great details as well as the requirements for dual, double majors, and sequences. One of the great attributes of CMC is the flexibility of designing individual majors. You should look up the complete description of the courses in the catalog -classes like Civilization 10 are unique to CMC.

You could also play with the online tool that "audits" your requirements: http://registrar.claremontmckenna.edu/requirements/cklistform.asp

You can also find an online course schedule that lists classes available at all 5C Colleges. Here it is: https://portal.claremontmckenna.edu/ics/coursecatalog

It is helpful to compare the courses offered at the different schools. Just remember that not all classes are offered every semester. That's why you need to check the catalog first.

A good starting point is at the Registrar's webpage: http://registrar.claremontmckenna.edu/requirements/

Give the website a spin and you'll probably find answers to most of your questions. Pomona and Scripps have similar tools.

Good Luck
