C'mon, chance me so I don't waste time applying to too many schools

Ethncity: African
I go to a fairly competitive school in the Bronx
Income is below 40,000, for a family of 5
GPA: 85.40 (Basically due to crappy freshman year grades due to a medical condition I had to get surgery for. I plan on making note of this on all of my additional comments section for schools. My junior year GPA always hovered around 93+) My rank is like 21/111
SAT I: 1970 (CR: 700; M 580; W: 690) I took it last Saturday, and I'm expecting a score in the 2020 - 2050 range. Right now, I have the second highest SAT score in my grade.
SAT II: US History (700), Literature (680)

Let's see, I've taken several college courses at a local community college, including Precalculus (B), Psych (A), Philosophy (A), and Chinese (A)

This year I'm taking a very rigorous schedule, which right now consists of three college courses (calc, writing, and business) and an AP Chem course. Next semester, I plan on taking 3 other college courses (sociology, literature and comp, spanish).

EC's:

-Child Care (9, 10, 11, 12) - I cooked and revised hw for my brothers typically for 25 hours a week. I taught my little brother how to read.
- Business Director of literary magazine that has won several Columbia Scholastic Press Association awards (11, 12)
Male Mentoring Program (11, 12) - Program consisting of college, HS, and middle school students. I basically mentored middle school students with academics and stuff.
- Was selected and flown out to do public policy research for a multicultural organization located near UC Berkeley (11)
- 121 hours of community service at the New York Hall of Science (11)
- History/Math tutor and one of the founders of school's first peer tutoring program (100 hrs)
- Used to be host and actor for drama club and its first shows
- I'm enrolled in a Japanese program outside of school out of general interest (11, 12)

Awards:

Won 2nd place in NASA funded robotics competition (10)

Received award for most outstanding student in peer tutoring program (11)

Won several 1st place awards during time in city debate circuit (10)

3rd place in school monologue competition (11)

I have strong essays and great letters of recommendation from my AP Eng Lit and Econ teacher. Oh, and from my guidance counselor as well, calling me the most "persistent" student she has ever seen. For USC, I'm adding a rec letter I got from the director of the program. My essay talks about my first experience in my "home" country.

So, with that said, what are my chances at the following schools?

USC

SUNY: Binghamton, Albany, Stony Brook

NYU

Occidental College

Pomona

Pitzer

Tufts

in at SUNY's, NYU and Tufts definately reaches, and i dont know about the rest. hah. USC i know of course but dont know enough about that. and i was surprised that you were ranked 11th with an 85 average? is that weighted or unweighted? and definately apply to the reaches. you never know, its a reach not an impossibility. good luck.

occidental, pomona, and tufts have acceptance rates of around 40% for african americans (statistics taken from the Journal of Blacks in Higher education). So I bet you're in at all of those. I imagine NYU will be even easier. you are well within their range for scores and GPA. Being a minority will only help. I can't speak for USC; I know nothing of how they employ affirmative action. Pitzer and the SUNY schools should also be locks. You'll have a big list to choose from in the spring. I don't intend to belittle your achievements at all by altering them with consideration for affirmative action. I think you'd have a legitimate chance anyways with your stats, but, as I said before, AA can only help. Best of luck!

You forgot to include your rank......

Tufts is a reach, and so is USC and (in my opinion) NYU. I don't know very much about the other colleges, sorry!

You have shots at your reaches though. If you were Asian, I'd have to say differently though. Affirmative action makes things..... weird.

I did include my rank -- 21/111

Oh. I didn't see it (it's kind of hidden because it's not its own line.) Lol.

Bump........
