CMU and MIT Chances

I am a junior in high school, and I was wondering what will be my chances of getting into either MIT or CMU.

Intended Major: Mechanical Engineer or Electrical Engineer (or double major with robotics at CMU)
Intended Minor: Robotics

GPA: 4.1
SAT: 2250

Extracurricular activities:
- Part of a volunteer club
- Founder of a Robotics Club, which one team went to represent our school at worlds
- Founder of a InventClub, which involves MIT's InvenTeams
- Developer of an app that is used widely by our school, and maybe will go nationwide
- Part of BoyScouts (will get my eagle soon)
- Part of Civil Air Patrol

In my opinion, MIT is a high reach (for anyone) and CMU is a high match.

What’s your UW GPA?

MIT’s unpredictable to say the least. I’d also say Carnegie Mellon is a reach as well. Any idea on how your rec letters are and the quality of your essays?

also, I’d say talk about the app a lot in your apps along with the InventClub – those two activities really do look great.

You have a decent shot at both of them, but since admissions are so tough for engineering majors at both schools, it’s still gonna be very difficult to get in, especially at MIT

At the moment it is a 3.7.

I believe I do have teachers that are willing to write pretty good rec letters, I have worked closely with my Computer Science Teacher and he agreed to write me a letter. As for my essays, I am average, but one of my English teachers is well known on editing college essays, and he helps a lot of students make their’s unique, so I believe I will have an essay that stands out.

And thanks for the advice I will definitely include both.
