simply, i want to know which is a more respected college

many people say nyu is solely famous for its location
that kinda sounds convincing because i also have never seen nyu in top 20 usnews ranking even though i know that ranking is BS
but i also notice this website didnt put nyu up with CC top universities

i know stern is GOOD but i am worried because i am not studying business for now
So i want to know what people normally think of those two colleges and which has more prestige
Thank you in advance

cmu. the business programs are comparable. both have strong arts programs (though with different arts focuses). carnegie mellon is stronger in just about everything else.

its not as if nyu is ONLY about its location, but much like bc and bu it is much higher demand than its prestige would imply.

i think both schools are equally respected colleges. It's a tough call because a lot of NYU name is built on it's fame, CMU is outstanding academically. It's name is not as known to the general public as is NYU though.

Any employer would know of CMU academics, so you can't go wrong there.

Although NYU does have top programs within their school so it's all about the major you plan to pursue.

im studying econ and i heard they are almost equal
that is why i want to know which one is more prestegious in general terms
(I am planning on transferring to b-school no matter where i go but i know internal transfer is HARD so i am not hoping much)

go with the school that offers you more aid. that's the easiest choice. i mean both are good, you can't go wrong.

do take into consideration that nyu has a campus that's basically no campus, where everything is spread out, and well at cmu you really get that college environment.

the only thing that would personally attract me to attend nyu is the city, and for me it would be what do i value more a city or cmu.

Definitely CMU if you aren't in Stern. Visit the CMU board for some more information (don't want to post pages of info here).

As for Econ: No they are not equal. Econ is in CMU's Tepper which is comparable to Stern. NYU's ECON is in CAS which is good, but not to the quality/prestige/avg salaries or job opps as Stern/Tepper.

Umm.. Not in Tepper either..
That would make my decision easier
but
i think its like college of humanities and something
i guess its just like CAS econ..

So people agree CMU and NYU both have good bschool/art schools but cMU is better at everything else, including plain econ (not bschool econ)?

Once you declare an Econ major at Carnegie Mellon, you get a HSS and Tepper degree. To reiterate: You are in Tepper.

Oh and yes, CMU is better in all kinds of Econ since it is now administered by Tepper as well and not only do you get the degree/prestige but Quant Econ here is #2 in the nation and there are so many tracks.

Check this out:

Click on ugrad Econ. Check out the curriculum. There are also 5 year MBA options as long as personalized "tracks" and focuses. Tepper/Stern > CAS.

just to let u noe, nyu cas econ is also the samething as stern. much like cmu....same department, both students, same proff, and same classes and etc.
