I will be interviewing with Carnegie Mellon University soon for the Design Option in the School of Drama. I've heard mixed things, and I know that it is not the norm, but is it extremely rare that a student that did not attend the precollege program is notified of an acceptace at the review?

Also, though I know that the average GPA for the college is not required for the School of Drama, how likely is it to be accepted academically (into the school of drama) between a 3.0 and 3.4 GPA unweighted and taking AP classes Junior and Senior year?

Thanks!

Even precollege students are not notified at the interview but receive letters several weeks later. I’ve been told that only two students have ever been accepted at their interviews–but I’m not sure if this was for PTM or D/PTM. So I’m guessing it is extremely rare. And I don’t know the answer to your other question, however, my D said some of her fellow precollege students had GPAs in this range and were accepted at precollege.

I should have said, “… were accepted from precollege.”

Oh alright, thank you! I know that a student was accepted at his interview this weekend (I believe off-campus in NY), and that the student did not attend pre-college, so I didn’t know if this was rare or not.

Thanks!

I completed my portfolio review yesterday morning and was accepted on the spot, so I guess it has happened more than once or twice I’m also accepted to CCM, and am waiting to hear back from some others. Can anyone assist me in finding rankings for CMU and CCM? Who is considered a better choice in terms of their design programs?

I heard one more story of someone accepted on the spot off the forum so I guess they’ve changed their policy or else the earlier story was in error. At any rate, they no longer seem reluctant to do this, if they ever were.

Congrats!
