hey guys, i've been getting an unbelievable amount of spam in my cmu webmail inbox... what gives? i tried looking for a junk-mail or blocking option. but there isn't one. it's getting pretty ridiculous now, like 20 junk emails about investing how did they find my email address anyways? how do you guys keep the spam out.. is anyone else experiencing this problem?

haha. no one's ever emailed me on mine yet. i think u can try an email client and use the spam block options there.

Yeah, I'm getting the same spam! I get like 20 emails a day about investing.

no spam in my mailbox yet! :p

Yeah, I have the same problem - isn't it ridiculous? Spammers knew my CMU email address before I even did. I'll be accessing it through Apple Mail, which has a pretty smart spam filter.

I think the addresses are in an online directory on CMU's website, which is where they would have been harvested from. There must be an option to prevent your address from being displayed in the directory, but the damage has already been done, it seems - just make sure you don't reply or give any hint that the mail is being read, and eventually the number of spams you get will decrease.

This is my 100th post, just so y'all know - w00t! Triple digits!

I got this from official computing news :

TECHNICAL DETAILS:
Over the past few days, we've experienced a significant increase in the amount of SPAM directed at our users. Our mail filtering environment is working, but some of the SPAM is slipping through. We are working diligently to update our mail filters with the latest SPAM signatures.

Please delete any SPAM that you receive in your INBOX when it is convenient for you. If you haven't already, you may setup mail filtering on your computer. Read "Using the Andrew Spam Filter" at
http://www.cmu.edu/computing/documentation/spam/spamfilter.html for instructions.

The Help Center is aware of this situation. Unless you have a specific question, there is no need to contact them regarding this issue.

this is kind of stupid but how do i get my cmu email address? im an incoming freshman btw. thanks
