I'm trying to decide between CMU and northwestern university. I plan to major in psychology or biology. I've been accepted to WCAS at NU and I got into HSS at CMU (i tried out for the dual degree program and got waitlisted on the "biology" side) Can anyone tell me which psychology program is better ranked?

also, i just got a letter from CMU saying that there is a lot of undergrad research opportunity. Is this true?

can you tell me why? I’m trying to see the benefits of attending cmu vs. nw. :
I recently found out that cmu ranks higher in psychology than NW in the grad school. does this mean something for undergrad?

A rank in the grads school shouldn’t be a matter to you at this point. Picture yourself being in either NW or CMU campus. Which one of the two pictures you feel more favorable than the other?
In my opinion, I’d choose WCAS over HSS because WCAS is more renowned and HSS is a kinnda overrated department in CMU.

CMU is ONE OF THE HIGHEST RANKED SCHOOLS IN PSYCHOLOGY. You should check out the US news and world report for 2008 or 2009 if that one has been posted. When I was accepted it was one of the top ten in the world, currently I think it is number 7. They only take 3 graduate students per year and have some of the top minds in behaviorial, cog sci. As soon as you enter you will start doing research.

Carnegie Mellon by FAR.

–A higher graduate school ranking is likely to do with the quality of the research the professors are turning out and the quality of research the doctoral students turn out. It is also tied to the selectivity of the school, test scores, etc… It makes a difference if you intend to go on to graduate school because you have the opportunity ((especially at cmu)) to do undergrad research with one of those professors. I have a friend who researched with one of the top minds in cog sci…it helped on his apps.
