CMU vs Emerson for Technical Theatre

D was accepted early action to Emerson and after her portfolio review was admitted to the program at CMU (with assurances that her grades and scores are strong enough to satisfy the university)

It’s hard to find good comparisons of the programs. She spent the day in classes and at a tech run at CMU and will look into arranging the same at Emerson. We have a good handle on the general pluses and minuses if each city, and have family friends in both (to ease my mind).

.Assuming financials can be sorted — which school and why? Looking for info about classes, training, theatre department culture, and job placement.

Any advice/thoughts welcome!

What aspect of tech is she interested in?

Scenic design, and/or technical direction. She likes to design and built, both scenery/props and mechanisms

@mdsvc89 - if you’d like I can ask my daughter to get feedback from her university professors on those two programs. She’s an double major in mechanical engineering and technical direction. It would be third hand info… but it would be objective!

Just seeing this now! I would love any input. Can I ask where your daughter is attending school?

We are off to Emerson next week so she can sit in on classes/meet some people/see the scene shop

@mdsvc89 Please let us know how your trip goes. D and I will be headed there in April for accepted student day.
