CMU website

I also think the CMU website is crap, especially for a CS school. My main problem is the difficulty of finding what you want without resorting to the site map or search.

Also, from a design point of view, the design is inconsistent. SCS's site looks totally different from the main CMU site; there's no sense that the one is supposed to be part of the other. 2331clk's complaint about the margins is also a good one. They're compensating for people with 640x480 monitors, actually, but there are better ways to do it - they could just make it variable-width.

Also, I forget which section it was in, but I encountered a lot of the webmaster's worst nightmare: broken links. To me, that suggests they really don't pay much attention to that section of the website.

All this is just on a cursory examination, and I'm already sounding like my old Web Design teacher. There are many more design-related complaints, but I would have to pay more attention to get them all.

Dear Carnegie Mellon Admission: You asked for web site feedback, here it is:

There should be a specific line in the "prospective student area" for tuition and fees. We have to do a search to find this information, which is unacceptable.

The catalog should be on the first page and easily findable and acessible

The joint major of art and Human Computer Interaction is very fuzzy and not well described as to function, mission or even courses (although courses can be found by searching). Even the Assistant Dean of the Design School agrees with this. I read it over very carefully for my daughter, and I am still not sure what benefits this double major will provide or what skills will be gleaned from this major. Is this program designed for those interested in web site design? What are benefits of Design kids taking this major? It's certainly hard to figure out.

4 You note on the site the "2003 factbook." This should be updated!

Graphical interface is a bit old. Graphics need updating."

I will give some more feedback when I have time to do a more indepth review of the web site. These are my visceral observations.
